Hi, I'm running Sid on a Dell laptop. I often connect an external USB mouse to it using a USB hub. I updated many packages yesterday, after which this problem surfaced. My problem is that this external mouse is freezing after working for a short time (2-10 minutes). Unplugging the mouse and

Have either of you checked to make sure you don't have gpm running. This is a common symptom of X and gpm conflicting. Most people don't even need or want gpm these days. dpkg --purge it if you do have it. You are so right. I actually thought about stopping gpm - but I didn't (don't know why).
