After doing some basic investigating I seem to have a problem with
permissions with xmms and a usb dvdrw drive. I have the drive mounted
on sr0 which points to scd0, which points to /media/usb. I have
changed the permissions to allow access to cdrom group. This link
seems to have the same problem.

I can play a music cd as root, but as a user of cdrom group I get no
sound. Every other device I use has access to sound but the usb dvdrw
drive, unless I am root. Permission is same for all drives, right
now I am running xmms with root permissions, not a big deal since I
am the only user on this machine at home, I start xmms on the cmd
line with root permission as a background process, then change user,
or close xterm window. I would like to fix this problem if it is
fixable, also I do not use any other mp3, or wav player, as xmms does
all that for me.
