Charlie, That looks like our winner. As you can see, you have three interfaces. The lo interface is your loopback interface. This should be configured with the IP address 127.0.0.1. Apparently it isn't. The quick fix is to run ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 as root and you'll be able to ping
