Try -
# kill -9 741I can kill it no problem but when I restart it I get:
/etc/init.d/lpd restart
Stopping printer spooler: lpd not running.
Starting printer spooler: lpd.
Have you tried clearing the queue with -
# lprm
?Yep I run it and it just sits there for a while and then returns

I seem to rememeber having this problem at some point after
