Not at all. Audio CDs do not have a file system and cannot and do not need
to be mounted.

You can't. You can only mount a filesystem. Audio CDs don't include a
filesystem. However that's

Why would you mount an audio CD?

Which you can do with package cdtool, using cdplay.

Oops, you must have overlooked the appropiate section in the CD-ROM
HOWTO[1] while reading it, especially section 4.5[2]:

David,
Go to the /dev directory and see if there is a symbolic link for cdrom
pointing
to /dev/???. Most IDE CDROMs will be /dev/hdc by default, SCSI will be
/dev/scd0.
You can also just try the following command after putting a CD in the drive.
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /cdrom
You have to add the symlink for /dev/cdrom - /dev/hd? to use
/dev/cdrom inn commands. My fstab line is: /dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660
ro,user,unhide. /dev has a line: cdrom - hdb. I type mount /cdrom and
voila my cd is mounted. spcd is for cd's on a proprietary cd controller
like a Sound Blaster
In looking at your problem there could be several things going on.
First
the way that your /etc/fstab is set up ONLY ROOT can mount the cdrom.
If
this is what you want that is fine. Secondly when mounting a file
system
there can be no user in the mount point directory. Ie if root attempted

You will need to have scsi_mod.o and sr_mod.o installed as well, for this
to work.

You need a special boot floppy for the 53c810. It's at
ftp://sgk.phast.umass.edu/pub/boot1440.bin.gz .
If you continue to have problems, get into the shell and run lsmod and
cat /proc/filesystems. Both should list the ISO driver.

Special_Boot-6 worked for me. I got it from LastMinute/SpecialKernels on
the I-Connect CDROM. The install failed to run 'depmod -a', though,
leading to symptoms like those
