you don't need it, and you shouldn't use them either, ext2 like most UN*X filesystems really have no problem with fragmentation and therefore very little attention goes into making software to do it. as a result the very few (i thought only one) defraggmenter was fairly broken and did a better job destroying the filesystem then defragmenting. its a waste of time anyway since as I said its not a problem, since in most cases ext2 never needs it. really if your having a problem with fragmentation it usually means your filesystem is too full or your partitioning is not very efficient. (say /usr and /var or /home on the same partition) leave the defragging stuff behind with the broken OS that needs it. -- Ethan Benson http://www.alaska.net/~erbenson/
