My expanation was unclear.  The 0s come from ifconfig 
after data transmission.  Communication has always worked 
for a non-zero time prior to failure.  Presumeably ifconfig 
reports cumulative bytes.  This is a problem even before 
the link freezes.  Here is a better demonstration.

The troublesome interface is a Linksys 200M.

No but while the Linksys 200M operates intermittenly, 
the driver should accumulate non-zero bytes.
