A long-standing bug. /etc/resolv.conf should be in basefiles or something
but no package owns it. Just create it. It should be owned by root,

After running cdebootstrap on a new install of sarge (no kernel yet),
I found that /etc/resolv.conf was missing. On my old sarge, somehow the
/etc/resolv.conf had became a symlink to
/etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf. But on the new installation,
there's neither /etc/resolv.conf nor /etc/resolvconf

Well, just a guess, but I might check your /etc/inetd.conf, and your
/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny files. Might be something awry there.

Yes. What I do is create files relevant to the different providers I use
- there are three essential files for me: /etc/resolv.conf,
/etc/chatscrips/

You need to put a script in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d that replaces /etc/resolv.conf
with the one appropriate to the current provider, and another in
/etc/ppp/ip-down to restore resol
Is it posible to make the use of deferent resolve.conf for deferent

pon provider2 will use resolve.conf.provider2
I've checked, and i do need different resolve.conf (deferent dns
numbers and a search line).

I like your script (I used to something very similar), but I have since
modified mine to use the PPP_IPPARAM feature of later pppd's. In my
/etc/ppp/peers/ispX file I just add the ipparam option which is passed to
the ip-up/ip-down scripts. It made my life a bunch esier than trying to
figure out

I avoid the problem of a separate /etc/resolv.conf for each of my ISP's
by never using my ISP's DNS servers.
I found that DNS lookups to my local ISP took as long as lookups to the
the main internet DNS servers A through M, about 4 seconds.
So, I run a local DNS server, and I have but one entry

There is a script that deals with this very problem as part of the
ppp kit for NetBSD.
It resolves this issue not by linking to, but by copying the proper
resolv.conf for that connection to
