What is the cleanest way to restart X? In RH 7.3 I can just to init3, wait
a second, and do init 5. Is there an equivalent method with Debian?

configuration requiring restarting X presents problems. Often, a reboot
is the only sure way.

There's an AbiWord bug which apparently requires adding the AbiWord font
directory to the XF86Config-4 file. Wondering if there's any way to
extend/expand the font path without having to exit and restart X.
I'll muddle with xset a bit.

There's an AbiWord bug which apparently requires adding the AbiWord font

Turn off xdm while doing this kind of tweeking, instead use startx
to start the server. Once it's working the way you want, reinable

nothing.
Can I just kill xdm and restart it w/o reboot?
