I installed Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r3 Etch – Official i386 NETINST
Binary-1 20080218-14:15 on my old Dell Dimension 4100, and it went off
without a hitch.
Using the same disk, I tried to install it on my old Gateway Solo 1100
laptop (which has a Celeron processor, 64MB of RAM and a 5GB HD).

Have you calculated the md5sum ? was it the right md5sum

If you copied the iso, then that's not surprising. You need to burn the iso
(163,392KB), but it fails to boot on any of the follwoing computers:
dd if=debian.iso of=/dev/hdX (where hdX is cd-burn device ;-)

el md5sum publicada por debian?
Es muy buena práctica.
Si lo hiciste y coinciden no hay modo de que esté mal bajada o
corrupta.

Es para i386, lo baje ya dos veces por si era un problema de corrucion... pero
sigue dando problemas. Comiensa bien, pero en un momento dado, despues de los
primeros 3 o 4 pasos del instalador, dice que no puede seguir porque no
encuentra algo.
