Some additional information... When I change the configuration to xrandr --output DP-3 --auto --output eDP-1 --auto --right-of DP-3 (usual dual screen settings), /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows: modeset(0): Allocate new frame buffer 7040x2160 stride because 3840 + 3200 = 7040 and max(2160,1800)

I have some display problems, I thought I was using the nvidia-legacy-39xx driver (the packages are installed) but I see the nouveau module loaded. How can I check wether I use the nouveau driver or not, and how can I switch the used driver ? Thank you

and not a heat issue.  Something in the hardware or driver seems to leave this adapter in some unstable state that requires a cold start, either disconnecting the adapter from USB, rebooting the computer and sometimes just unloading and reloading the driver

I'm using Ralink RT3572 (Linksys WUSB600N v2) with no problems after disabling mac randomization in Network Manager. The only drawback is it is only a 802.11n device. I'm looking for a 802.11ac upgrade with no success.
