Thanks...althought it seems that I was using the wrong driver for the network card (I was trying 3c95x, and found a 3c90x driver). Of course I can't get my machine to talk to the DHCP server yet, but I'm woring on it. I got ppa to work by recompiling the kernel. Pete -- On 12 Feb 2001

What special hardware do you have ? Typically, you don't need any extra modules. Standard hard drives, and mice , and CD's don't need any modules. The video drivers are installed later (well not really 'intalled') with X A network card will need a module. ps/2
