This is sendmail version 8.12.3-4, gotten in last night's dist-upgrade

Sendmail seems to have broken with the last upgrade. I get errors like:
Cannot open hash database /etc/aliases.db: Invalid argument
Warning: cannot open alias database /etc/aliases
Cannot create database for aliase file /etc/aliases
whenever I run newaliases.

This happens to me a lot. You have two options: put your hostname and
IP address in /etc/hosts, or convince sendmail that it really doesn't
need to do a DNS lookup. The second I don't remember how to do, but I
think you can manage it from the M4 stuff (which is good; .cf files
are
