Please recompile UR kernel after updating the kernel ppp sources.
Do this by doing a 'make kernel' inside pppd-2.3.10 top level dir.
Read the pppd source docs too...

No big deal on the performance was noted. If U want the kernel
logger message to disappear and say 2.3.10 better do the
'make kernel'. Anyway that would be a safe bet...??
