virtual domains under exim

2000-01-04 Thread Pere Camps
Hi!

I'd like to setup a virtual domain with exim. So far I've managed
to make it able to accept emails for the virtual domain, but it now sends
the emails to the local users. I'll give an example:

The machine is named machine.org and has tons of local users that
receive email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So far I've managed to make exim accept emails for virtual.org.
Exim now sends these emails to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (without rewriting
headers, it just puts them in the /var/spool/mail/$USER).

I've done this with the local_domains seting.

Now I want to make exim send all the mail for virtual.org to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] A nice plus will be to have an independent
aliases file for this domain.

Is there an easy way to do this? Can anybody who has done it
before please send me his exim.conf file and any other appropiate files?

Thank you very much!

ps: Please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] directly, as I'm not subscribed to
the list due to its high volume. Thanks.

Quake 2 and glx/mga

2000-01-04 Thread Alisdair McDiarmid
Has anyone got Quake 2 to work with recent glx/mga CVS? Q3:A demo
works well (and very quickly) on my G400, but Quake 2 doesn't even
run.

Running /usr/games/quake2 +set vid_ref glx +set gl_driver libGL.so
loads Quake 2, and just before switching to ref_soft mode, it
complains that it can't load libGL.so (which is in /usr/X11R6/lib).
Switching back to VC7 (X), the X server is kind of screwed - it
doesn't register mouseclicks in any window other than the one the
pointer was on when I ran Quake 2 - and it acts as if the left button
is held down - moving the pointer around the aforementioned window
drags a selection (if it's an Eterm or Netscape, for example).

Is this a bug in the quake2[-bin] package or glx, or is it possibly my
configuration? Has anyone else suffered the same problems?

it can be a damaged hard disk but i had this problem to, like a year
ago, and disabled SMART for the offending harddrives and never had that
problem again, so you might want to try that.

for SMP, you can always turn X off in redhat, although im not sure how to.

those are symlinks not actual files, for the above example the file
libstdc++.so.2.7.2.8 libg++.so.2.7.2.8 must exist for the links to be
functional.

the packages those files are in is libg++272. that is assuming you are

No, I don't see anything. I load all the modules, but devices like pcm, cd,

Sure, $amixer set DEVICE 100 unmute. After that I can cat file.au >

doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Also strange that when I use the OSS drivers build in the kernel sound is
coming out, but no mixer capabilities.

Strange thought, but might the fact that I have Video4Linux build into the
kernel have something to do with it? -- Hans

Re: New to debian - adding a disk drive

2000-01-04 Thread aphro
this may be a bit complicated but once you get the hang of it it takes
only a minute. there may be an easier way to do this i dont know this is
how i do it.

[begin]

install the new drive, make note of the configuration, if it is IDE note
that is it a master or a slave and is it on the primary or secondary
controller. if it is SCSI note the ID of the drive.

boot linux

login as root

type fdisk /dev/XXX

where XXX = device

for ide
/dev/hda = primary master
/dev/hdb = primary slave
/dev/hdc = secondary master
/dev/hdd = secondary slave

for SCSI
(usually)

/dev/sda = SCSI disk 1
/dev/sdb = SCSI disk 2
(etc..)

once fdisk is up, type p to print the current partition table. if its a
new drive it should be empty, type 'n' for new partition, then select the
type of partition you want, you probably want to add a logical
partition(so use 'l') then accept the defaults for the next 2 prompts
which asks how big the partition should be, then you should be at a new
prompt again, hit p again to show the new partition, and you should see it
there, hit 'w' to write the partition table(note the name of the
partition)

now to format the partition,

type /sbin/mke2fs /dev/XXX

where XXX is the name of the drive/partition (i.e. /dev/hdc1) -- DOUBLE
CHECK THIS OR YOU COULD ERASE THE WRONG DRIVE.

now time to make a mount point and mount it:

make a directory (preferrably in /mnt) name it anything(e.g. /mnt/stuff)

now type mount /dev/XXX /mnt/stuff

where XXX is the name of the drive/partition

now to add it to mount on boot:

edit /etc/fstab use your favorite editor, add a new line exactly like the
one for the root partition ("/") except change the mount point and
device. like this:

/dev/hda9 /stuff ext2 defaults 0 2
/dev/hda9 /stuff ext2 defaults 0 2

if you need more info lemme know.

You have the package perl, version 5.004-blah installed, not the
package perl5 (which is actually only a virtual package, provided by
the various flavours of the perl-5.00x packages.

Why do I need perl5 again.. Ah, yes convert-metadata.db needs it.

Reorganisation of the perl packages is one of the things in potato
that make rebuilding packages not that easy.

You can either change debian/control to depend on perl instead of
perl5 and rebuild it, or you can --force-depends the existing package,
but I think dpkg, apt and dselect will bitch about the missing perl5
package, so the first alternative is the better way.

dont think such a tool exists with the stock install of slink, potato has
linuxconf which is partially operational i read. you may want to look
into webmin (www.webmin.com) its seems decent, although its not updated to
run with debian 2.1(i think its configured for debian 1.3) so use at your

i prefer config files myself, most of my admin stuff is done through ssh
anyways.

hostname is changed by changing /etc/hostname. this can cause havok with
X authority, perhaps someone can mention how to update Xauth to work with
the new hostname? i never figured that out.

make sure your firewall is wiped clean, the ipmasq package royally fries
my machines by adding all kinds of firewall rules which blocks 100% of all
ingoing and outgoing traffic. i always remove the package because ipmasq
brings the rules back without me telling it. turning on ipmasq manually
is only a 2-3 line script, so i do that instead of having a package do it
for me.

i do that on many machines, the main network config is located in
/etc/init.d/network

add a line that says something like

ifconfig eth1 netmask broadcast

if you are using kernel 2.0.x then you also need to add a line:

route add -net

ignore that if your using 2.2.x

example:

ifconfig eth1 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 broadcast 10.255.255.255
route add -net 10.0.0.0

then you can bring it up by typing /etc/init.d/network

the next time you boot it will be on as well.

if you want more info lemme know

2000-01-04 Thread aphro
either your drive is misconfigured in the bios or by LILO (would be nice
if you included full info on the drive that your getting errors on)

but its more likely that the drive is failing, if its a recent IBM or
Maxtor both companies have excellent diagnostics software for their
drives, not sure about other companies.

also is this error on a fresh install or has the system been running a
while then this started happening? a bout 2 weeks ago i powered down a
p100 (with debian) to yank the cdrom, another admin fired it up a week
later and 2 out of 3 of the drives were dead.

It is supported ( XFree86, 3.3.5) and listed :

( The XFCom_Rendition was "wrapped" into XFree86)

You may get XFree86 and the XF86_SVGA x-server at:

I need a truley interactive chat script for PPP

2000-01-04 Thread MallarJ2
I need to connect to the mainframe from the office, and have a need for a
complex chat script. Can someone help me out?

Under Win95, I have my dialout connection set to bring up a terminal window
after connecting, so I can do the following:

Login:
Password:
Challenge: abc93029
Response:

[Here I take the challenge number above and key it into a card-like device.
It then gives me another number I need to key in as the "response". Then I
press F7 (Continue) to start the PPP session.

How do I mimic this functionality in Linux?

chat doesn't seem to be powerful enough. I can use SAY or REPORT to see the
challenge, but chat doesn't seem to provide a way to key in a number
interactively. wvdial doesn't seem to be capable of this either.

Any thoughts?

SMP support in 2.0 kernels is not great. I tried it and had crashes about once
a day. I am now running with a 2.2 kernel under Redhat on the same machine
and it is very stable (multi month uptimes). You can run 2.2 kernels with
slink although I have not done it myself.

The few crashes that I have had with Linux on uniprocessor machines have
always seemed to be X related. I would expect a system without X to extremely
stable.

Well, I hate to answer my own question, but I think I found the answer to it
anyway. I guess XFree86 just hasn't updated their website - in like - ages.

So, my next question is this. I now know the latest version of XFree86
supports this above card, but there's no .deb for them. So, is there a way
to install it over my existing X installation? Or should I just remove all
my .debs and install the new X server with the .tgz files instead?

Running X on a Diamond Stealth II S220

2000-01-04 Thread MallarJ2
I've got the above card on my PC at the office, and have a need to run X on
it. Evidently, it isn't supported directly. (I'm using slink, by the way).
I checked on X11.org and it doesn't appear to be supported by the XFree86
servers either. There are, however, two that X11 packages that do support
it, one that I don't want to pay $99 for, and the other, from SUSE. However,
I can't seem to find the driver on SUSEs ftp site. Supposedly the server is
called XFCom_Rendition.

So... questions are:

* Is this card supported by XFree yet, and just not listed?

* If not, does SUSE still include this driver? If so, where would I find it?

* Is there any other way to get this card working under X?

* Has anyone gotten this card to run under X yet?

Many thanks in advance.

multi-processor kernel

Hi

does slink with kernel 2.0.34 support a multi-processor system with 2 power
supplies?

We currently have our file server set up on redhat 6.1 running

about putting debian slink on the machine and not running xwindows as we
think xwindows may be a contributing factor to it crashing.

Black Magic

2000-01-04 Thread Dave Sherohman
OK, so I spoke too soon... I managed to get glide working last night, but
only in software mode. I still can't get it to recognize my Voodoo2 Black
Magic 3D card for hardware acceleration.

Last night I was working with the rpms and raw source from linux.3dfx.com.
Today I pulled the new Potato device-3dfx-source, libglide2-v2, and
glide2-base debs from Debian.org. Either way, I get the same error:

gd error (glide): _GlideInitEnvironment: libglide2x.so expected Voodoo, none
detected

/dev/3dfx exists with permissions 666, major 107, minor 0, just like it
should be. libglide2-v2 says that it's the version of libglide intended for
Voodoo2 cards.

Anyone have any experience with the Black Magic cards? Anybody not know the
card, but have some ideas anyhow?

What command would one use to _exclude_ certain directories from the
archive?

Specifically, what would the cpio command be to achieve the following
? :

tar -cvpf /mnt/zip/homebackup-`date '+%d-%B-%Y'`.tar \
--directory /home/howard --exclude=vmware --exclude=.netscape/cache .

Here I have archived my home directory except for the "vmware" and
".netscape/cache" directories.

When I tried using the simultaneous install
everything went the same as
doing each app. Doing "dpkg -i --force-overwrite
gmc*.deb" did overwrite
the offending file, but then it errored out saying
that gmc depended on
"perl5" and that "perl5" was not installed. What is
that all about. It
is a stable slink system with perl5.00404 installed
in /usr/bin with
symlinks in /usr/local/bin to "perl"

Reviewing my steps while logged in as root:

1. created directory /temp
2. downloaded files from potato with wxftp:
  mc_4.5.42-4.dsc
  mc_4.5.42-4.diff.gz
  mc_4.5.42.orig.tar.gz
3. changed ownership of downloads to root
4. ran command: "dpkg-source -x -su mc*dsc"
5. that created 2 new directories; /mc-4.5.42
   /mc-4.5.42.orig
6. ran "cd /mc-4.5.42"
7. ran "debian/rules binary"
8. that created the files;
mc-common_4.5.42-4_i386.deb
   mc_4.5.42-4_i386.deb
   gmc_4.5.42-4_i386.deb
9. tried installing each package separately, as a
group and using
--force-overwrite: you have the results of that.
10. mc works and the original mouse problem is
solved, but gmc will not
install because of "perl5" missing dependency.

Yes I am a perfectionist and I want to get this
right so your advice is
greatly appreciated.

Well, one gets to choose which end they are going to pay at, yes? I teach at

Perhaps if used within the confines of that institution; but lectures, etc.,
represent intellectual property. There's far more to this than simply having
the tools to do the recording (or whatever).

??? I don't believe I have forgotten the reason I teach. I don't think that
the dramatic increase in the cost of higher education is related to that.

Again, one has a choice of institutions/prices, too. If you go down such a
path and wind up with a job that doesn't help you pay off any debt
accumulated within a reasonable time period, then it seems to me that a poor
choice was made somewhere else as well.

Hello group,

I am very new to debian (mostly redhat). I have a server that
is becoming more in need of disk spaces. I want to add
a new hard drive. The hardware guy has added the hard drive
and I want know a step by step process to get debian to
recognize the hard drive. To sum it up, I need help with
the following:

1) The steps in using fdisk and fstab under debian to add the
new drive.
2) I have the home directory on another partition and I would like
some thoughts on how best to spread /home across the two drives.

Any help at all would be most appreciated.

Thanks to all.

I have no MANPATH set on my slink-r4 and everything works fine and when
I set it to what you mentioned in your mail, it works as well. Maybe
that means that the error is something else.

Hope it helps ...

Start playing some sound and this will change. BTW if all modules were

You have to use an ALSA-mixer (e.g. gamix, xamixer2 or amixer) or you
have to load the snd-mixer-oss module to get "normal" mixers working.

(1) I am not sure but I believe that it is the WM business and that Fvwm has an
option to do it. (2) Isn't xeyes do just that?

1) At least with XEamcs, probably with Emacs too, you can try Help->Samples.
2) You can look at Emacs Beginner's HOWTO, I belkieve the author append one or

No, it should only be in the gmc package, as the convert-metadata.db
script is also only in this package, and it is its manpage that you
have problems with.

What confuses me is that debian/rules copies the manpage to the gmc
buildtree only. So I have no idea how you managed to get it into the
mc package :-)

As a quick fix, --force-overwrite when installing will do it.

network troubles

2000-01-04 Thread Marketsource Online
Greetings:

I recently made a jump from caldera to debian and am in general very happy.
I am, tho, getting hung up on a few points...

a. Is there some sort of system configuration tool, like lisa/lizard,
netconfig, etc available for Debian? I do enjoy editing .conf files and
scripts but a frontend would be a big help considering how much time I
spend looking for the configuration files!

b. How can I change the system name I came up with during install? I even
grep'd through /etc and can't find the current system name anywhere.

c. My old system is set up with ADSL and ipforwarding. Starting with a
clean slate, I can bring up lo and ping localhost. I then bring up eth0
with ifconfig, add the local network route, and can't ping in or out of the
system. ifconfig shows no packet movement.

What I'm getting desperate to do is:

- bring up eth0 and eth1
- set up eth0 with my static ip address and make it the default gateway
- set up eth1 as the local nic

I'm sure I'm missing something simple in some configuration file but I just
can't find it. If someone could walk me through this, or point me to some
specific documentation (I've read over the NAG and Network HowTo too many
times to count) I'd be eternally grateful!

TIA

Mike

I tried purging mc, mc-common, and gmc along with the dependent
applications. The offending file was gone. Then I tried installing
mc-common, and mc and lastly gmc. That had the same result. I purged all
of them again and tried this order; mc-common, gmc, and lastly mc. This
time mc would not install, yielding the same error message as before.
The problem seems to be this one file, which apparently should be in
mc-common (which it is not) and not in either of the other packages. BTW
I can not seem to downgrade because October Gnome requires at least
these versions. I will try your idea of a simultaneous installation. I
appreciate the help.

I have been having netscape silently die every day or so. Everything
else has been running just fine though - I haven't noticed any other
slowdowns.

Quitting netscape, rm -fr ~/.netscape/cache/* and restarting netscape
seems to have fixed the problem. Going into preferences and erasing the
disk cache from inside netscape does not seem to clear things up btw.

I find that recent eximconfig will add a procmail director
to exim.conf. with bugs.

# This director runs procmail for users who have a .procmailrc file

procmail:
  driver = localuser
  transport = procmail_pipe
  require_files = +${home}:+${home}/.procmailrc:/usr/bin/procmail
^^ hopefully these "+" shall fix the problem.
  no_verify

IIRC, without these exim defers the mail when it cannot check the
existence of .procmailrc (when the home dir is not readable) With the
"+" signs exim just ignore the director and proceed to the next one.

Now that Debian 2.1r4 has been released, I'm wondering what an appropriate

deb http://ftp.netgod.net x/

deb ftp://security.debian.org/debian-security stable updates
deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian dists/proposed-updates/

deb ftp://ftp.us.kde.org pub/kde/stable/1.1.2/distribution/deb/slink/i386/

Are all of these sites still necessary with 2.1r4?

use `find -xdev' if you want to confine find to one partition e.g `find

this is why its better to use tar instead of cp but cp -a might do
the copy correctly. another option is cpio, but I am not quite used

I agree that it would be nice, but if a package depends on things like
debconf, things become complicated (debconf may even be installable in
slink, but the dependencies/conflicts were too much for me). If it is
possible, yes, but if the pain is too much, then not.

If, however, an installation would only fail because of a simple
thing like an unsupported chmod switch then that would warrant a
bug report IMO.

you may be able to copy them again, and tell it to overwrite existing

yeah, pain in the ass..

i had problems on 486s getting the network to communicate _at all_ i knew
the nics were good and they were detected but i always got 100% packet
loss for unknown reasons, and i had a p100 that failed after a few minutes
using a pci NIC but runs for months with an ISA nic. the eepros have been
good to me too although im not an intel fan and i try to avoid their stuff
whenever possible, the 3com 3c905C failed eventually last night too:( it
worked for a while in my k6-2(never tested the driver but the lights on
the switch came on) when i slapped it into my i440BX/Celeron system, no
lights on the switch(although i got lights on my hub when i plugged it
in..) tried it in the k6-2 again and it still didn't work! ack so i had to
put an eepro100 back in my celery box and lights came on even when the
machine wasn't powered up! (which was weird)

pisses me off, damn network stuff, i wish they'd get a standard like the
VGA card makers did(VESA?) everything is splintering in the network
world. sucks.

Re: split archives using tar

2000-01-04 Thread Michael W. Shaffer
This is not exactly what you were asking for, but you might try something
like:

  tar -cvMf /dev/sdz directories_to_archive

where /dev/sdz is replaced by the device for your Zip drive. The 'M'
option should (according to the man page) cause tar to prompt you for the
next disk when it runs out of space on the first one. You can then
extract the 'multi-volume' archive with a command like:

  tar -xvMf /dev/sdz

I highly recommend using cpio in preference to tar if the archives are
for your own use and not public distribution to unknown platforms. The
command to use cpio would be:

  find directories_to_archive | cpio -ovH crc > /dev/sdz

Cpio will automatically span volumes and prompt for the next disk or tape
when it runs out of space. The 'H crc' option a causes GNU cpio to create
an archive in portable ASCII format with a 32-bit CRC for each file. This
allows you to easily verify the archive's integrity and detect errors on
restore. Unlike tar, cpio will not puke if it encounters a single error
on restore but will continue to restore all undamaged data after the
error.

To verify with cpio:

  cpio --only-verify-crc -iv < /dev/sdz

This will not print any messages except the final block count if all the
CRC checks are good. This does not compare files on tape to those on disk
but instead reads the file from tape, calculates a CRC, and then compares
it with the one stored on the tape at the time of creation to see if they
match.

To restore with cpio:

  cpio -imudv < /dev/sdz

Warning: the 'u' option causes cpio to automatically overwrite existing
files on disk with those from the archive.

linux should recognize them regaurdless, the downside to running different
steppings is in hardware only, now linux is only as stable as the hardware
it runs on(cough my abit bp6 failed that test). i read that intel fixed
the 'problem' so now people can use multiple steppings in a SMP
configuration(in P-III units only though). in the past it was rather
painful to purchase a second cpu a year later only to find out so many
things about it was different it made for a somewhat unstable
configuration.

Have you already tried "man tar"?

To write a tar archive over multiple media use

 tar cMf /dev/your_zipdrive 500Meg.archive

Or use split(1) to split an already existing 500 Meg tar archive in parts
and cat(1) to join them again later. Needless to say that this is
documented in "man split".

education warehouse, sound-video player

2000-01-04 Thread Antonio Rodriguez
I have been thinking lately that there is something missing in the free
(software, etc.) community: Tools to educate any person that wishes to
do so without having to dump 5K-40K USA $ a year. Any way, seems to me
that the following will be needed, but if someone has a better idea it
will be great:
Software that enables video recording of lectures, with the highest
compression and facility of use, to facilitate speed of transfer, etc. I
am sure that many educators (such as myself) will be found willing to
record their lectures and similar for this matter.
What happens is that seeing how students are obligated to pay huge
amounts of money (many end up in debt for many, many years of their
lives) makes any person sick. Except of course if you are benefiting
from it and give a s*** about others. Remember the dorm fees, etc.? Not
that they are bad, but they should not be compulsory, if you have where
to sleep. Sleeping is not part of the curriculum. Any way, I am sure
that with time a big warehouse or library of whole careers can be
formed, and perhaps even a free internet university system which gives
degrees in many languages, and which, by the power of its components and
the reputation of its graduates will be able to easy the grip of the
existing educational centers, who have become money sucking machines and
forgotten much of the original intention.
May be it is a US only problem, I don't know. But I thought that the one
of the best places to start was here, in the Debian community, by asking
for (soft-hard)ware expertise.
Thanks,
Antonio.

Are you running samba or acting as a gateway for any Windows or samba
machines? They'd most likely be the ones sending out these packets, which
your dial-on-demand sofware is diligently coming up and trying to send out.

I missed the start of this thread, so I don't know what dial-on-demand
software you're using, but I know that diald can be configured to ignore data
on certain ports, so you can tell it to never bring (or keep) the link up for
traffic on port 138.

This won't always be the case - I can see C++ packages needing a later
GCC version, for example.

> It should be possible to build packages for local installations from potato.

This would be nice if it were possible, but supporting up to date parts
of the distribution often means that a package won't work on the
currently released version. Things like debconf or logrotate just aren't
there in slink, and dependancy changes like the perl and netstd splits
need to be taken into consideration too.

Well, the one of the advantages of providing source is the way it gives
you the freedom to go out and fix your own problems :-) . Forcing all
packages to build on older releases would create a fair amount of extra
work for the developers which won't always be useful for users (mostly,
stable works just fine).

The way you're supposed to do this is with partial upgrades, but
glibc2.1 makes this a bit more offputting than it normally is.

Regarding to the docs, b and c stand for
b rewrite the Bcc: header
c rewrite the Cc: header

Since my entry in exim.conf is bcfrF it should only work for
b rewrite the Bcc: header
c rewrite the Cc: header
f rewrite the From: header
r rewrite the Reply-to: header
F rewrite the envelope From field

Since I didn't say "t", it shouldn't rewrite the To: header.

But I will try your alternative if you tell me about the section to put it.

No there shouldn't. That would mean that he was demanding that the ISP

However, it appears that pppd is not starting at the ISP.

The standard Debian /etc/ppp/options includes 'auth' (but not
'require-pap'). Fortunately, pppconfig overrides it by putting 'noauth'
in the provider file.

Run the installation of mc, mc-common and gmc simultaniously with dpkg
-i mc.. gmc ... mc-common...

Maybe the old mc package you have installed erroneously contains the
manpage as well.

You could deinstall the old mc package first as well.

The problems I encountered where in no case compiler- or library-related.
Compilation worked fine. The only problem was that the package building
process did not work. I could have installed the programs by hand, but I
would have to bypass the package control system and would get problems when
the real packages eventually come out.

It should be possible to build packages for local installations from potato.
If it is not possible to do this, many of the advantages of providing source
packages and not merely sources would go away. You would be stuck with
stable. So often someone's problems were solved by "grab the potato
version of it".

If I install a package from unstable and it does not work right in my
environment, that is OK. But I want at least to try if I like to. Without
having to turn my whole system into something unstable.

Thanks for your reply.. it seems that the problem was with the 2.0.36

I think not. You need to differentiate between build dependencies
(which are not yet implemented in Debians packaging system) and
install dependencies.

> 2) (some/all) potato sources are build with potato debhelper

Yes, of course. Why not?

Some may be useless, e.g. sources that explicitly require glibc-2.1
or gcc-2.95.

> Does anybody know how to deal with this?

There is only a package-to-package solution, IMO. If building
new packages for `old' versions were that easy, we would have
more new/updated packages for slink. Thought out 'til the end,
eventually the differentiation between stable and unstable would
fade away...

debhelper, potato sources on slink

2000-01-04 Thread Jens Guenther
Hi,

I tried to build several potato packages for my slink machine. This failed,
because some debhelper scripts were not available. After installing the
potato version of debhelper, it failed again, this time because some command
(it might have been "chown") did not support some command line option.

Under another subject this problem was mentioned recently, but the author
encountered problems related to debhelper and perl.

This suggest to me, that
1) dependencies of debhelper in potato are wrong
2) (some/all) potato sources are build with potato debhelper

Potato sources seem to be useless for slink installations.

Does anybody know how to deal with this?

Jens

Any device sold in a country should be usable with that country's power
outlets.
If you buy from abroad, where will you get support if it goes wrong?

There doesn't seem to be one. Britain uses 3 rectangular pins, arranged so
that the earth pin connects before either of the others. Most of Europe
uses 2-pin plugs or a different arrangement of 3 pins.

Why are all modules used by "0" only snd used by "1"? What does this mean?

Sound is working except the mixer. Devices are not showing up, except
master volume and tone control and they are not having any effect. Could
this be related to the above, or might this have to do with the isapnp setup?

Any hints to get the mixer working highly appreciated. -- Hans

Not sure if your problem is very simple, but I've seen this

maybe it was wmscope.

I'm not sure what your situation is. Do you have a /dev/dsp

(Assuming you have the wavp program from the wave tools package).

It has been some time since I setup my sounds, but I would
look in the ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WMSound file (you do have one
right?) for sounds that are specified but do not exist. I also
don't remember if I compiled wmsound myself or not. In any case
I have included my file, in case it helps get you going. I

Doesn't Ctrl-C work for any program at all? It does not work for a lot
of interactive programs when they are expecting input. In those cases
you can usually press Ctrl-Z to stop the program, read the number in
brackets that bash prints, and use that in a kill command, like this:

$ xclock
[ press Ctrl-Z ]
[1]+ Stopped xclock
$ kill %1

If you cannot kill a non-interactive program like xclock with Ctrl-C, I
don't know what is going on. Note however that specific programs can
choose to ignore Ctrl-C. I do not believe programs can choose to ignore
a stop signal (Ctrl-Z).

Re: installing apache from source

2000-01-04 Thread Brian Lavender
If apache that was installed was compiled with DSO support,
then you should be able to add php support by going into
dselect and and selecting it. DSO means Dynamic Shared
Objects. Search your system for apxs which is the perl
script that allows you to dynamically compile in modules.

Then find your httpd binary and execute it as follows

$ httpd -l

It should list all the compiled in modules. If it lists

mod_so.c

then you have DSO support. If you feel inclined, you can
grab the php source, and compile its module. In the PHP
source you will find INSTALL.DSO where it will explain the
steps to install it.

Good Luck,

brian
