en windows en debian tambien va a hacerlo.
No todo el hardware funciona en Debian; pueden existir varios motivos:
- es reciente y aun no tiene soporte
- hay algun problema con la licencia
- etc

A MI me ocurrió una cosa parecida con una HP 1100
En Debian NO funcionaba el touchpad.
Pero con otros Linux Live CD sí lo hacía
Así que instalé primero Ubuntu (un desastre de LENNnt)
Luego instalé Xubuntu y funcionó.
