start getting garbage when you move the mouse. If
you get garbage, then the mouse is found properly.
In my case, I just had to install hotplug (apt-get install hotplug) and
then unplug the mouse and plug it back in. After that, everything worked

In the meantime, I'd suggest getting comfortable with your mail
client's Reply to List feature. In mutt, it's L, in Evolution I
believe it's under Actions. For other clients, I'm not sure where
it's at, but most modern mail clients should have functionality for it.

upload rate by a command line parameter to btdownloadgui. I believe it's
--max_upload_rate. If that's the only thing you need to cap the upload
speed for it's a lot less work than manually trying to cap the entire
network.
