Debian Stretch (Gnome) - Standard install
I have noticed, the "New Document" option is not shown in the context
menu by default. You have to create an empty (text) file in
"xdg-user-dir TEMPLATES" to enable this option.
Of course it is only my opinion, but isn't it a common feature for
feature
The Eclipse Debian package is outdated and not maintained currently [0].
I recommend downloading the most recent version of Eclipse directly from
their website [1]. The installation is trivial and works out of the box.
