ISDN external terminal adapter setup

2002-01-24 Thread David Natkins
Dear all,
I'm setting up an ADTRAN Express 3000 terminal adapter. I know that it doesn't
require
drivers like the interal boards do. I'm just not clear on how you set it up.
Please let me
know which Howtos, FAQ's, etc., I should read.

 Hi David,

this was due to a bug in the libc6 package installed during python-base's
build. I have rebuilt the python packages with the current libc6, which
fixed this dependency, and uploaded this as python 1.5.2-9. I has been

Re: upgrading libraries

1999-11-09 Thread David Natkins
My suggestion is that you install apt which is in slink and use that to
install the packages you want. Apt will resolve dependancies and tell
what additional packages it has to install to install the package that
you have specified.
Example: apt-get install procps
Check the apt-get man page.
Fethi A. Okyar wrote:

I want to start upgrading hamm -- slink !! Too late ??
 hope not

Anyway I dont want to do this all in one round? Any
suggestions? Should I do it step by step or all in
 once??
The problem is I'm connecting via modem, so it will take
until Y2K until I get all those new packages.

I know that upgrading those libraries is a major pain,
from previous readings of the user-list. So how do
I decide which library to upgrade, and in what order?

Any suggestions are appreciated, god bless!

 Okay. Here's what you do:

 1. Start up fsck, and shrink the partition you want to shrink, but DO NOT

SAVE THE PARTITION TABLE, just look at the size you get, and write it
 down.

 2. Make sure the filesystem is at least mounted read-only, preferrably not
 mounted at all.

 3. Run ext2resize /dev/whatever the size from step 1

 4. run fsck again and do like step #1, but actually save it this time

 5. Reboot.

 6. Do what you want with the extra free space.

Could you explain how to reclaim that space. I semi-successfully used
ext2resize in the past, but I couldn't get the changed partition size
correctly reflected in my partition table. The instructions were a
little negligent on this part. I ended up repartitioning and
reinstalling after f**ing up my partion table and filesystem. Kinda
defeated the whole exercise.

with make-kpkg you don't have to make modules or make modules_install.

One other thing: are there any problems compiling 2.2.12 or 2.2.13 with gcc

not be used to compile 2.2.13.
The kernel people have been fixing the problems as they come up.
I used it - boots fine.

Has anyone tried compiling the recent kernels (ie 2.2.10-12) with gcc 2.95

I would like to try compiling the new 2.2.13 on my Celeron using gcc

Re: ppp not working

I think what's being overlooked in all of this is that the orignal

Try 'insmod ppp'. Does that make it work?

This should, indeed, be done automatically. /etc/init.d/modutils should
have code to do 'depmod -a' and 'modprobe', which should do all you
need. Take a look there. But have you rebooted since your install?
 Maybe that's all that's needed.

This works only if you are running TCL 7.5 and TK4.0. How hard would it
be to upgrade to tcl 8.0 tk 8.0?

At http://gator.naples.net/~nfn03343/XwmC.html you can download a program
XwmChooser 0.5 which is in graphical form and help you switch from one wm

Re: Help wanted with daemon startup

1998-12-31 Thread David Natkins
I'm not running DIALD but am running PPP. I have fetchmail in the ip-up.d
directory. When PPP comes up it automatically runs everything in ip-up.d.

 Hi, folks

I want to begin fetching mail as soon as my system boots up,
by having fetchmail running as a daemon. What should happen is that
fetchmail will trigger diald when it wants to connect to my POP account.
Where should I install the fetchmail-up script to enable this?

Re: ip-up ip-down

1998-12-25 Thread David Natkins
May I ask what dynipclient does? I'm setting up a tiny network at home and
am going to network a Linux box (running slink) with a Windows 95 machine
(my son's) and I get a dynamic IP address from my ISP. I use a PPP
connection.

When I add the lines, it doesn't work.

How do you know? These scripts are run with stdout directed to /dev/null,
so you won't see any output.

In any case, the proper way to do this is to put this script in
/etc/ppp/ip-up.d, name it dynipclient, and make it executable:

 #!/bin/bash
 /usr/local/bin/dynipclient -p

And put this one in /etc/ppp/ip-down.d, name it dynipclient, and make it
 executable:

 #!/bin/bash
 /usr/local/bin/dynipclient -k

Re: KDE: krdb missing! Help!

I always put unstable (slink) before stable. So if it isn't in slink, I
must have gotten it from Stable. I know for sure that I didn't download
it from some place else

From slink? But KDE is not in slink! And did you get it to work
 without errors / error messages?

I got this reply from the maintainer of kdebase:

  Hi!
Where can I find the latest KDE debian packages, and which version
  would that be?

There are none and it would be 9807??-1.0

So, apparently, we should just install from the source?
But a while ago someone on the list pointed out that there are debs
 at:

I am downloading as I write... it's a slow server... does anyone else
on the list use that version? What version do you use?

How do you apply patches to the kernel ? I tried it and got
rejections. I'm trying to bring my kernel up to 2.0.32. I have the
debian linux source for 2.0.30 installed (I believe it is level 9).
