gdm gdmchooser gdmXnestchooser
I run sid on two computers and have problem understanding how gdm works. What I want to do is run gdmXnestchooser to connect to the other computer. I get the gdmchooser screen but after I select one it just restarts the gdmchooser again. I have verified that Xnest works and remote program can connect. Also should it not be possible to choose another computer than the local one directly from the greeter screen? I never get the gdmchooser to show itself. After all what is the [chooser] section in gdm.conf really for. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have a problem with ftp to debian when it is configured to use nis. Everything works OK as long as I have a normal user entry in /etc/passwd but when I take the user account infomation from nis fptd wont allow the user to connect. Telnet and other stuff works so its related only to ftpd I think.
diald
I have a very annoying problem with win98 (suprise). I have a system where one linux box is running diald(masq) and connect to the net as soon as any computer inside wants out. Before i have run win95 and everything was working nice. Now I got a new computer with win98 and it always tries to ffind out the ip address to LOCALNET with some time period and when I start it also tries to find out Service.Presario.Net but I can probably get that to stop I have not tried yet. I call my net localnet and if I fill in that as the domain in win98 it tries to look up LOCALNET.localnet ?? if I dont have any domain it only lloks for LOCALNET go figure :( So how can I solv this ? apart from not running win98. I think it should somehow be possible to make a diald filter to cancel al name lookup with LOCALNET in it but I'am not shure how this would look.

Joe Emenaker wrote: I call my net localnet and if I fill in that as the domain in win98 it tries to look up LOCALNET.localnet ?? if I dont have any domain it only lloks for LOCALNET go figure :( It sounds like you might have localnet defined in two places, as your domain, and also in your domain suffix search order. You should probably leave the suffix search order blank if you're running your own 'named' on your diald machine. - Joe No the domain search order is blank.

HAMM ftp proxy install
I tried to install hamm thru a ftp proxy. It did not work. I tried ping my proxy and that was OK. But the install never could do a connect. I dont know exaktly what went wrong other than it faild. I tried to start dselect with debugging but that did not print anything on the ftp connect. I did a ftp from WinNT ftp and the sesseion is something like this WinNTftp proxyname proxyUser: my proxy user proxyPassword: my proxy password proxyftp user [EMAIL PROTECTED] debianPassword: email addrs IN!! what type of session is dselect ftp expecting ??? One improvement in the ftp install would be a manual login to the ftp server then return to the script. Then It should work for more people. I looked at the perl script but as I dont know perl that did not help much. To me it looked like proxy never could work but that probably wrong. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Smail config for a ppp box
I also have problems understanding smail. My guess is that the debian package dont contain all documentation. I have the almost the same problem as didier belot wrote about. I call my home network localnet an my prvider is canit.se. I can send mail to everyone but them on canit.se.so it's a very similar problem. When I tried to configure smail I directly run in to problem. To start what is a driver? and what drivers ar valid ?? from the already installed configuration files I gues that tcpsmtp is a valid driver but I made a grep on al smail doc I have on my system and that gave no hit. This makes me think that I miss some type of doc. What dose driver smartuser do and smarthost ? all I really need is that when a local driver fail to deliver I send it over smtp to mail.canit.se. I was quite close to do this but the mail got stuck in the mailqueue -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . xman
I cant find any package for xman. I scaned the package file and xman was only mentioned once in that file as a conflict with some other package. How could that be if xman dose not exist in debian ?? -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
install from floppy
I have downloaded debian from Debian.1.1.8 directory and installed the base system. I got so far as to run the dselect program and stoped there as i had not downloaded more files. Now the problem is that I dont understand how dselect works. I thought that it should indicate what i have installed but when i choose Selcet it shows a * sign before things I dont have on my system. I have downloaded some *.deb files but how do I install them ? I obviously dont understand the help dpkg gives me. Have anyone done a step by step example to install a *.deb file ?? Pio 1 is to make a slip/ppp conection to my provider so i can install more over ftp. Any tips is greatly appriciated.
