Bootable backup cd ?

1999-02-25 Thread Marcel Burggraeve
What I'd like to do is to make a backup of my debian system on a
bootable cd-rom.
The idea is to boot from the cd and have it 'copy' all data to a
harddisk so I can run debian again within short time if I ever mess
up.
I've found a utility which should do this named backup linux at
http://ny.us.mirrors.freshmeat.net/appindex/1999/01/27/917458678.html
But the link to the actual program isn't working the last couple of
days.
Is there anybody with a script, a program or something like that which
could make this bootable backup ?

I see that the 2.2.0 kernel is now officially released.

Does anyone know if there are any problems, or things to be wary of, in
compiling this kernel for Debian hamm?

After compiling and installing the kernel I can't use ppp anymore.
pppd keeps complaining about missing ppp support in the kernel and I
know for sure the modules slhc, ppp and bsd_comp are loaded.
Haven't had any time time to find out why this is happening or what is
wrong but on dejanews I've seen more people complaining about this.

manipulating the From header with smail + elm

1996-10-09 Thread Marcel Burggraeve
My systemname is debian but my provider has another ( offcourse ;-)
When I post mail to someone via my provider I want my From header
looking like : [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of graeve or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I've read all about smail and elm ( I think ) but cannot find a
solution.
When I send mail to someone and they want to reply, they are replying
to graeve ( which was ok if it was local ) but it should be
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
How do I achieve this ?

smail + elm host - from question

1996-10-05 Thread Marcel Burggraeve
The name of my system has the default name of debian.
I installed smail + elm for my mail.
Now I have a little problem, when I send mail to a remote host on the
from field it says : [EMAIL PROTECTED] but this should be
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ( cistron is my provider )
How can I change this from field ?
I've tried to configure smail with cistron.nl as the visible host but
when I mail a test message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] it's delivered at my
localhost instead of my provider.

How do I solve this 'problem' ?

bash profile question

1996-10-04 Thread Marcel Burggraeve
I know you can use your .bash_profile to let you see the current
directory and a prompt ( like in dos or os/2 )
I do have a profile which does this but was wondering if some people
could post their profiles so maybe I can choose another which I like
more or something like that.
