 Excuse me?
You're telling that a package version in Sarge will not be maintained any
 longer?

Rob,

Thomas is an upstream kmymoney2 developer. I forwarded the bug report
upstream as it wasn't a specific Debian issue per se, but rather an upstream
issue,

Thomas, advised that upstream aren't maintaining 0.6.4 anymore.

 Is this a Debian policy?

As far as Debian goes, the stable branch is only maintained for security
updates, new versions of packages are not submitted. As this is not a
security issue it won't be fixed for sarge.

Short of using testing/unstable or going to 34rd parties, just how would
one upgrade to 0.8.2 when it's not even available in Sarge?

There are a couple of options available. You could always backport the
package from sid to work in a sarge environment. http://www.backports.org
maybe able to assist here.

Or you could add a sid deb-src line to your apt/sources.list and then do
something like:

# apt-get build-dep kmymoney2
# apt-get -b source kmymoney2

Or alternatively you could wait until the next stable release of Debian which
should contain the updated version of kmymoney2.

Hi Rainer,

The default init.d priority level for hpoj is 19, not 15 as you have there.
That was changed in hpoj-0.8-2, so should be reflected in your current package
but isn't for some reason.

The current version is hpoj-0.8-10, which is available at
http://packages.debian.org/hpoj, I suggest you install that version
which should resolved your rc2.d links.

If that works please let me know and I'll close your bug report.

Simple way to downgrade libc6 (fix Konqueror, Mozilla and Galeon problems)

2001-09-28 Thread Mark Purcell
Given the current interest in downgrading libc6, to enable unstable
Konqueror, Mozilla or Galeon to function correctly, I thought I
would post the simplest method of downgrade.

# apt-get install libc6=2.2.4-1

This of course assumes you have testing listed in your apt.sources:

deb http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian testing main

Please ensure you use your local mirror for testing...

For full details please consult apt-get(8).

For those who are interested in the problem with libc6, please
look at:

http://bugs.debian.org/libc6

Hope this is of some help... I know I have been scratching my head for
the last couple of days trying to work out what is wrong...

The very first thing to do is to take a backup copy of your existing partion
table as any changes to the partition table can be bad. See below...

Once you have taken a backup copy you then need to edit your partition
table to get it back into reasonable shape. This should not be undertaken
by the faint of heart and ensure that all your data is backed up before you
attempt this.

I used gpart(8) to do the recovery and it seems to be working fine now.

Mark

To quote from the gpart(8) man page:

PRECAUTIONS
gpart may be of some help when the primary partition table
was lost or destroyed but it can under no circumstances
replace proper disk/partition table backups. To save the
master boot record (MBR) including the primary partition
   table to a file type

  dd if=/dev/hda of=mbr bs=512 count=1

exchanging /dev/hda with the block device name of the disk
in question. This should be done for all disks in the sys?
tem. To restore the primary partition table without over?
   writing the MBR type

  dd if=mbr of=/dev/hda bs=1 count=64 skip=446
seek=446

Warning: make sure that all parameters are typed as shown
and that the disk device is correct. Failing to do so may
result in severe filesystem corruption. The saved file
should be stored in a safe place like a floppy disk.

Leafnode is a USENET software package designed for small sites, with a
few tens of readers and only a slow link to the net.
 .
Only groups that someone has been reading in the past week are fetched
from the upstream NNTP server. When someone stops reading a group,
leafnode will stop reading that group a week later, and when someone
starts reading a group, leafnode will grab all the articles it can in
that group the next time it runs.
 .
 - Uses very little disk space and bandwidth compared to other servers.
Obviously truer for 3-user sites than for 30-user, and probably wholly
 untrue for 300-user sites.

maintainers would just go and recompile, we would not be arguing about
this. And, it would take less than three days. No changes in source had
to be made, just re-compiling.. thats it.

But how would it be possible for every single package maintainer to
recompile their particular package in the next three days?? What about the
ones who are off on holidays, busy at work, etc.

Add to that if they do compile they will need to upgrade the package to a
higher version number and there may be a few little errors which creep in
such as leaving out conf definitions and the like. There is no way that
all packages in the debian distribution could be tested in the next three
days.

The reason why there is three months between releases is that the package
sets come together and are known to work well. Recompiling everything
three days before release is just asking for problems.

But it doesn't pose a problem does it?? It just means that Debian 1.2 will
be based on libc5.2 and all the packages in 1.2 have been tested over the
last three months. libc5.4 (or greater) will still be available for those
who dare in unstable and will be released in three months time when all
these little niggly bugs are ironed out.

A lot of people depend on stable, being just that. If Debian releases a
buggy release it will reflect badly. We have a lot to loose and nothing to
gain by including libc5.4 in 1.2.

Please do put together the debian 2.1.1 package of scotty/tkined! I

Tkined certainly makes for a nifty network mangement system and I will

Re: XFree86 3.1.2F plans?

1996-09-17 Thread Mark Purcell
I had the same problem. My Mach64 chip is also new and wasn't recognized
by the Debian Mach64 package.

In my case the solution was simple, although it may not work in all cases.

I installed the debian Mach64 Xserver (xserver-mach64.3.1.2-5.deb) and I
then only downloaded the new 3.12G Xserver (XF86_Mach64) without any of the
config files or supporting applications.

I renamed the 3.12G server to XF86_Mach64.312G and placed it in the
/usr/X11/bin/ directory with my other Xservers.

When I edited the config file /etc/X11/Xserver to point to the new server
everything worked like a charm.

The beauty is that I haven't overwritten any of the debian controlled
xserver files and have only added one additional file
(/usr/X11/bin/XF86_Mach64.312G). Thus when the next debian release comes
out I can upgrade without fear. Of course I am not totally sure of what
mixing the binary with the debian config does, but it works and is giving
me good results here.
