Hello Gana,

I do use this combination on my computer and I would even share _my_

windowmaker's and gnome's session management get in each others way.
It seems, that I cannot keep one of them from starting lots of apps

To all: Maybe someone else can help me?

Problem with route and kernel 2.2.10

1999-06-27 Thread Ralf Comtesse
Hello,

I compiled kernel 2.2.10 today and almost everything went fine. The
only problem is when booting.
In /etc/rcS.d S40network is called and there you find the line

route add -net 127.0.0.0

wich gives me

SIOCADDRT: Invalid argument

Was there change that I did not get? Sth. else I missed? The network
seems alrigt. How do I get rid of the error message (without deleting
the line ;-)) )

Regards
Ralf

FW: Kernel 2.2.7 and Sound

1999-05-15 Thread Ralf Comtesse
Hello,

I have just upgraded to Kernel 2.2.7 and compiled sound support as a
module.

When I try to play a sound file, I get sth like

splay: Failed to open sound device.

/dev/dsp[1] and /dev/audio[1] exsist. The logfile shows:

May 15 11:18:34 socrates modprobe: can't locate module sound-slot-0
May 15 11:18:34 socrates modprobe: can't locate module sound-service-0-3

My /etc/conf.mod says:

alias char-major-14 soundcore

It seems to have to do with the dma and irqs of the SB-SoundCard, since
they are not the defaults.

How can I set the sound card up correctly. I guess, I have to give some
options in /etc/conf.mod, but I could not find any hints on how to do
that. What is the correct syntax of the option line? Any help would be
greatly apprecitated.

Thanks
Ralf

This one is set.

With regard to your .xinitrc, if you are running kdm then your

run. It is only run if you use startx or xinit to start X. If you
 want things to be
run when the kde is starting up, you need to put kde link files in
~/Desktop/Autostart. Copy a template from your Templates folder and
 modify its
properties to get what you want.

And how is it possible to set environment variables at KDE-Startup?
They should be seen by all programs I start from KDE. I have most of
mine in a .bashrc file.

The manual explains how to set up kdm-chosser and uses a .xinitrc-file
for that. That is another thing I cannot get running.

Thank you very much for your help.

KDE and .Xdefaults

1999-04-27 Thread Ralf Comtesse
Hi,

I just installed KDE from ftp.kde.org. It is the slink version. My box
is running potato. The main problem at the moment is, that on startup
neither my .Xdefaults nor my .xinitrc is read.

I applied the changes to /etc/X11/Xsession as described in the kdm
pages. But the defaults or inits are not read. Saying that, I am not
quite sure about that, either, since ls -l on my .xsession-errors
shows the actual date. But the logs show only the last entries, so I do
not know, what commands are executed.

So:

1. Am I missing sth? What do I have to do to read .Xdefaults of .xinitrc

2. What ways do I have to find out, which lines of .Xdefaults of
.xinitrc are executed?

3. Is there a possibility to increase the logging size of
.xsession-errors?

Hope, you can help me

Regards,
Ralf

TeTeX and fonts

Hello,

since a while ago, when I upgraded my tetex distribution, not all fonts
are used when using LaTeX or lyx.

Especially palatino is used replaced by the normal roman font family. I
deleted all *.pk files and they are reprocuced, when I run xdvi again,
but still roman is used for the display. Some of the postscript-fonts
seem to work (bookman etc.). I have run texhash, too. Has anybody got
more ideas where to look?

Did you try to run texhash or texconfig? If during installation texhash
