editando o arquivo /etc/gtk2.0/gtk.immodules

E modificava a linha:

cedilla Cedilla gtk+ /usr/share/locale
az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa

POR:

cedilla Cedilla gtk+ /usr/share/locale
az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en

Já verifiquei as menages anteriores, inclusive acompanhei alguns articulos
na internet referente a este mesmo incidente porém todos se referem a
versões anteriores do Debian, estou particularmente me encontro fora do
configurado =)

Como posso solucionar esse problema no Debian Squeeze, não encontro o
arquivo gtk.immodules ou similar, inclusive realizei varios teste com
/etc/environment e também com o /etc/defaut/locale; alguma recomendação?

Obrigado,
M. Wallace S. D.

Application shortcuts don't work in KDE4?

2011-03-07 Thread S D
Hi,

Can't get application shortcuts to work in KDE 4.

I defined Ctrl+Alt+F to launch Iceweasel as follows: Right-mouse-button click
on the Kickoff Application Launcher, select menu editor, select an
application, goto Advanced panel and change the Current shortcut key.

However, pressing Ctrl+Alt+F does not launch Iceweasel later. Similarly
defined shortcuts for other apps also don't appear to work.

Any ideas? Thanks

Once you opened an archive file with Ark, Ark will show you the content of the
archive. Now, select/highlight one of the archived files and then do a RMB
click. In Lenny, a RMB would open a menu with one of the items being Open
with... that would allow you to select a specific app to open the file with.

In Squeeze, a RMB click when you're *inside* Ark seemingly does nothing, all
you can do is to preview a file in the Ark internal viewer, you can't open it
with an application of your choice.

So, it appears that in Squeeze one would have to *explicitly* extract the file
first in order to open it with a specific app instead of the internal viewer.
One extra step as compared to Lenny, one extra step I'd like to avoid.

* In the KDE3 version it is possible to Open with any suitable application
* It is also possible, in the KDE3 version, to Edit with an application.
These two features are not available in the KDE SC 4 version yet.

Very disappointing. Can anyone tell how long Lenny will be supported once
Squeeze is released?

[squeeze] Open with... gone from Ark?

2011-01-28 Thread S D
Hi,

I use Ark application to open rar/zip archives. In Lenny it was very convenient
to open an archive with Ark, select a compressed file and then a
right-mouse-button click would show a menu with Open with... item that would
allow to select an app you want to open the file with, no explicit extraction
needed.

In Squeeze a right-mouse click on file within Ark seemingly does nothing, no

Is there a way to fix this so it would work as it did in Lenny?

What I did: Alt+F2, then select the app to run as root (tried Dolphin and

Re: RS232-to-USB adapter with dial-up modem

2010-09-17 Thread S D
 From: Phil Requirements simultane...@comcast.net

What are you using to try to dial out?

I'm using pppd and the respective pon/poff scripts and configuration files.
This configuration works fine with the modem when the modem is connected via a
RS-232 port. When the modem is connected via a USB port it doesn't. The only
change in the configuration appears to be the device (/dev/ttyS0
vs /dev/ttyUSB0) to which the modem is attached to.

Perhaps a silly question, but does the adapter require that you install a
 driver?

There's a CD that came with the cable but it only contains stuff for Windows.
The vendor did not explicitly claim it'll work with GNU/Linux. Linux does seem
to recognize the modem, in the log it says usb 1-9: ch341-uart converter now
attached to ttyUSB0, so it looks like the problem isn't with the missing
driver(s).

I'm beginning to think John Hasler was right when he said that they've failed
to implement enough of the modem control lines and/or gotten the voltages
wrong and suggested to throw the cable away and buy a new one. That would be a
pity though.

Lenny upgrade: Is there a way to reconfigure video card in lenny?

2009-02-18 Thread S D

I'm trying to resolve Desktop is not using full screen problem that appeared

http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.user/browse_thread/thread/b651d56d24d02d35#

Since there's no solution so far, I'd like to try to COMPLETELY reconfigure my
video card settings. Is there a way to do it in lenny?

I tried dpkg-recofigure xserver-xorg but the reconfig process asked some
questions about the keyboard it didn't ask anything at all about the videocard.

It appears that video card configuration was removed from dpkg-recofigure in
lenny. Has anything replaced it? How can one reconfigure video card in lenny?

It's supposed to be automagic now, built into xorg
 itself.

If that doesn't work, Xorg -configure
should give you a starting point
for xorg.conf. Further customizing has to be done with
 your favorite
 text editor.

I'm trying to resolve a specific issue that appeared after upgrade from etch to
lenny, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=515840.

In etch the video card was configured using dpkg-reconfigure and it was working
marvelously. In lenny it's all screwed up and dpkg-reconfigure no longer
allows to reconfigure the video card. It's simply not clear for what needs to
be customized to get it working.

Again, no. It means that Java SDK is now part of Debian distribution and people

Lenny upgrade: Can't mount mdadm RAID drive under kernel 2.6.26

2009-02-16 Thread S D

Hi,

Just finished dist-upgrade to lenny from etch. It appears that after the
upgrade the system can no longer assemble and mount mdadm RAID drives under the
etch kernel 2.6.26. I still can assemle and mount my mdadm RAID drives under
the kernel 2.6.18 from etch.

Here's some relevant info:

Before the upgrade I had 3 mdadm RAID drives as follows, the system was working
fine:
/dev/md1 was mounted as /boot(AID1)
/dev/md2 was mounted as /root (RAID5)
/dev/md3 was mounted as /swap (RAID5)

# cat /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf

The following is what I see on the screen while booting the system under kernel
2.6.26 before it drop into BusyBox. Note the system appears to be able to
assemble some mysterious /dev/md0 out of nowhere, when I should've only had
/dev/md1, /dev/md2, /dev/md3:

-t option allowed to create a new image (pretty much the same size, the

remains.

When booting into the 2.6.18 kernel the system is still able to assemble and
mount the drives, even with the device= lines removed from the config file.

Lenny upgrade: Failed to load modules ati and typ1 when starting X. No drivers available

2009-02-16 Thread S D

After dist-upgrade from etch to lenny, I'm trying to run lenny using 2.6.18
kernel that I have left over from etch, as I'm having issues assembling mdadm
RAID drives under the new 2.6.28 lenny kernel (For more info see
http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.user/browse_thread/thread/b97fd9b0a450370f#
 )

The problem now is that when I try to start X, it fails complaining that:
(EE) Failed to load module type1 (module doesn't exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module ait (module doesn't exist, 0)
(E) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found, giving up

Any ideas? Thanks

Installed the xserver-xorg-video-ati package and it did resolve the issue
somewhat. I was able to start X and KDE, KDE is running and and appears to be
functional (v 3.5.10) but the picture looks very strange indeed.

The picture now, for some reason, doesn't use the whole available screen space
but leave unused areas about 3-5 cm from the left, right, top and bottom
monitor edges. It looks something like this:

  +1--+
  | |
  | |
  |+---2-+|
  || ||
  || ||
  || ||
  |+-+|
  | |
  | |
  +---+

Where 1 is the monitor and 2 is the picture.

I usually run my monitor in 1600x1200 mode and KDE shows it as the current
resolution.

Any ideas? Thanks

I checked xorg.conf, it already has 1600x1200 line entries. Besides, the KDE

monitor *is* running in the 1600x1200 mode. However, the picture doesn't use

No way to disable Google safebrowsing in IceWeasel?

2009-02-07 Thread S D

Is there a way to disable Google safebrowsing feature in IceWeasel? I want to
have as little as possible with Google, even if it only means repeatedly
downloading some black-list file from their servers.

Thanks

That won't work. The browser.safebrowsing.enabled property is LOCKED and

You probably have Iceweasel version earlier than Iceweasel/2.0.0.19
(Debian-2.0.0.19-0etch1). I remember I used to be able to do that too. Not
anymore.

You could try editing prefs.js in the iceweasel profile
 directory.

Yes, that should work. I've looked into prefs.js and I actually do have
safebrowsing disabled:

  user_pref(browser.safebrowsing.enabled, false);
  user_pref(browser.safebrowsing.remoteLookups, false);

So the GUI doesn't allow me to *enable* it. That's weird but whatever, I want
it disabled.

Thanks for your help.

Mounting an old external USB drive

2008-10-30 Thread S D

Hi,

Am trying to mount an old BusLink USB drive but can't determine what device the
USB drive is connected to, that is, the device that I'd pass to the mount

Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Mysql fails to install after aptitude purge mysql-server --purge-unused

2008-06-19 Thread S D
--- On Thu, 6/19/08, Florian Kulzer

Maybe you can recreate the /etc/mysql/conf.d/ directory and
 the installation will be successful.

That was one of the first things I tried but it didn't work out, it leads to
more problems.

If that does not work then run

 dpkg -S etc/mysql

to find out which packages on your system should have files

That was a brilliant suggestion. I knew about dpkg -S but somehow I assumed
that everything related to mysql-server was removed when I purged it. Not so.

mysql-common was left over as some other packages depended on it and that was
causing the problem. Purging mysql-common (and the dependent packages) and then
reinstalling resolved the issue.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Mysql fails to install after aptitude purge mysql-server --purge-unused

2008-06-18 Thread S D
That line in the script reads:

 echo -e # created by
 debconf\n[mysqld]\nold_passwords = $RET
 /etc/mysql/conf.d/old_passwords.cnf

This does not seem to require that old_passwords.cnf exists
 beforehand.
Is there still enough space on all the relevant partitions,

Yes, free space doesn't seem to be a problem, there's plenty of it.

 does the
 /etc/mysql/conf.d/ directory exist?

The /etc/mysql directory no longer exists, so no. As I remember the first
time I tried to purge mysql the /etc/mysql directory wasn't purged as it had
some files in it, so I removed it manually, I wanted a new, fresh, clean
installation. That, perhaps, was the beginning of my downfall.

 Can you do this:

 touch /etc/mysql/conf.d/old_passwords.cnf

Nope, see above.

Basically I want a new, fresh, clean mysql installation. I want the old
installation gone, completely, and that's why I used purge instead of
remove.

Thanks

Mysql fails to install after aptitude purge mysql-server --purge-unused

2008-06-17 Thread S D

Hi,

For some reason mysql fails to install after running aptitude purge
mysql-server --purge-unused. I want a clean, fresh mysql installation and
don't care about what happens to the old mysql data/config files/etc. It
appears the install scrip is looking for the old
/etc/mysql/conf.d/old_passwords.cnf and fails since it doesn't exist.

Any ideas? Thanks
