Re: how to use mencoder to record TV program
I am too tired and let's end this thread. Thanks! There is a long way to go to meet my goal: 1) the output is playable on Linux and Windows 2) the output is two to three megabytes per minutes, frame size is 384x288, my CPU is P3/550 Replacing with -oac copy does not work. Audio still can't be heard after some effort. All the switchs used by mencoder still seem foreign to me. Maybe I should read mplayer manual. The learning curve is not smooth. Mplayer is in beta stage, and a/v synchronization problem often occurs. I am quite happy with helix producer that uses real media format. producer works well in sarge (kernel 2.4) and meet my goal. So why should I try so hard using mplayer? ByeBye!! --- On Wed, 11/5/08, Emanoil Kotsev [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Emanoil Kotsev [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: how to use mencoder to record TV program To: debian-user@lists.debian.org Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2008, 5:25 AM Serena Cantor wrote: It works now though it has many programs! I change /dev/dsp1 to /dev/dsp in your command, and run it. It records, and I can hear TV audio. After about 15 seconds, I press Ctrl+C to end recording and play output.avi. I find that TV audio is NOT recorded (TV video seems OK). I have to add -vo x11 to mplayer output.avi to play it. vlc player can't play output.avi, even video is not shown. So now you have video but no audio. right? But when you watch TV you hear sound. may be try first instead -oac lame and -lameopts -oac copy. means replace '-oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=64' with '-oac copy' I think though that the problem is another one, but try this first and tell me if it works. If it's not working you may also try to add following to the tv driver line 'forceaudio:immediatemode=1:forcechan=2:audiorate=44100:amode=1:audioid=1:adevice=/dev/dsp' notice the forceaudio command and the immediatemode. The immediate mode (look in man mplayer) is the option that we need I think. We can try add alsa and replace adevice=/dev/dsp with adevice=hw=0.0 or adevice=hw=0.1 I don't remember which was correct for capturing. 'forceaudio:immediatemode=1:forcechan=2:audiorate=44100:amode=1:audioid=1:alsa:adevice=hw=0.0' I'm not familiar with vlc, but after you manage to record your first video with sound you can play with the different options of mencoder and try to find a way that records or converts videos to something vlc would like. When I record movie and check the file type with file it says file 20081014-201413.avi 20081014-201413.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 720 x 576, 25.00 fps, video: FFMpeg MPEG-4, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 1 or 2 (stereo, 48000 Hz) I usually convert them after this with mencoder file 3SAT_Effesos.avi 3SAT_Effesos.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 720 x 576, 25.00 fps, video: FFMpeg MPEG-4, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz) When recording I use -oac copy ( means no conversion of audio stream) Then I convert with mencoder and do higher compression of video too. regards -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: how to use mencoder to record TV program
It works now though it has many programs! Thanks!!! After running 2 sudo commands given by you, your mencoder command can record. I don't copy sudo output, because 1st sudo merely says insmod snd-mixer-oss.ko and snd-pcm-oss.ko and 2nd sudo has no output at all, though I have /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer after running 2 sudo. I read manual at www.mplayerhq.hu to find a mencoder option that sets recording time length so I needn't press Ctrl+C to end recording, but can't find it. FYI my TV card is made by Lucky Star Image World ConferenceTV, I should use modprobe bttv card=21, but they say my card is a clone of Flyvideo, and I find modprobe bttv card=8 works better. The TV audio output of TV card is connected to Linein of sound card. This is very common in Bt8x8 TV card. Re: how to use mencoder to record TV program
The command you gives does not work. It seems to me that you miss -tv, so I add it, mencoder says sth. wrong with audio device. I think I can omit chanlist and channel specification in mencoder command, because I can use the command below to watch TV: mplayer -tv driver=v4l:width=640:height=480:outfmt=i420 -vo xv tv:// Maybe mplayer can manage to do its job with defaults. Omitting them will make things a little easier for me. I'm in China, which use china-bcast in xawtv. The other distros use an Ensoniq (ens1371) soundcard. I'll reboot into FC3, and see if there is anything in /etc/modprobe.conf that might help you. Thanks a lot! I use the command you offer. There are many issues to be solved. I use mplayer to play it. I have not installed ffmpeg. Mplayer can't forward seek when playing it. vlc play only video, not sound. Besides, mencoder can encode .flv. After some googling I ended up with the following solution: $: mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy -idx -o out.avi in1.flv in2.flv in3.flv etc... I used it to join some 12 .flv files into one single .avi file of approx. the same size as all twelve added up. As I understood it well, mencoder cannot output .flv format (but a lot of other formats indeed). For me there was no reason to convert the out.avi to out.flv, using ffmpeg, as it only results in poorer quality. Besides that, I found ffmpeg deleting some frames while converting. So I stuck with the .avi file. I use ffplay on the command line to watch the .avi video (ffplay is part of the ffmpeg package): $: ffplay -x 640 -y 480 out.avi If you ensist on having a .flv file, you can use ffmpeg like this: $: ffmpeg -i out.avi -sameq out.flv Greetings, Manon. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. need help on getting CD-Writer working in etch
I attach a CD-Writer(hdb) after installing etch on hda According to /usr/share/doc/wodim/README.ATAPI.setup: If you have just one CD writer in your computer, CD-writing should work out of the box. There should be a symbolic link /dev/cdrw which points to your actual CD-Writer's device (e. g. /dev/hdb). If the link is not present (eg. the system is not using udev/devfs) or if you want to use a different device as default, you can configure the device in /etc/wodim.conf: CDR_DEVICE=/dev/hdd Surely it isn't that simple. If I attach CD-Writer before installing etch, maybe it will be configured correctly. During boot, I see CD-Writer detected as hdb, I know it should be ignored and use scsi-emulation. Thanks for your advice! I have tried and been disappointed by gentoo. I have used File Runner before. It's not as intuitive as Explorer of Windows. To me, any interface that's different from Explorer will make me uncomfortable. --- Haines Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I've been looking at FileManagers, and it seems there's some tendency to rely on two applications, a text-based file manager for daily use and a GUI application for special purposes. Midnight Commander (mc) works both text-based and GUI interface, and I've used FileRunner for years. In none of these cases do you need a desktop environment. As for text-based applications, there is clex and MC, but I've been looking at putting emacs into a file manager mode. Here there seem to be three choices: a) Norton Commander (nc.el, which uses MC commands), Evening Commander (ec.el, which is less complete), and Sunrise Commander (sunrise-commander.el, which is based on dired commands). You can even run these emacs modes from a console, as far as I know, which for me is a big advantage (independent of the X windows system). -- Haines Brown, KB1GRM -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. In fact, in /boot/config-2.6.18-5-amd64 I see that most of the IDE lines are listed as modules and that they are in /lib/modules/2.6.18-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/ide/ Since the initrd setup tells it to load most modules on boot, my guess is that this is the problem. How old is the system? I've found that linux tends to drop support for old hardware as time passes. It could also be a hardware problem. However, before you throw out the drives or the system, I'd suggest, as a fast and easy test, grabbing the OpenBSD floppy42.fs bootfloppy (assuming that the old box boots from floppy) and try booting it. If it completes booting, go to a shell and check dmesg and the logs to look for any errors. If there are errors, then it may be a hardware issue. Just use fdisk to delete /dev/sda2 and rectreate it with the same starting point and the new size (that includes the free space) Then use resize2fs to resize the filesystem to the new size. You might also want to look into gparted, as it has a very nice gui that is a lot less intimidating than fdisk. You can even boot off a gparted livecd and fix your partition. File not found: 'driver=v4l' Failed to open driver=v4l. The manpage of mplayer contains this example: input from standard V4L: mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l:width=640:height=480:outfmt=i420 -vc rawi420 -vo xv So youâre missing the -tv which is why mplayer recognizes driver=v4l as filename. Re: can mplayer in etch be used to watch TV?
Thanks! I just try tvtime, it let me know all frequency of TV stations during scanning. it require a high-performance CPU. I use Celeron 300, too slow for tvtime. I will try xawtv again with knowledge of tv frequency learned from tv scanning. I am so busy. I will try later on. Thanks again! --- David Brodbeck [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Oct 31, 2007, at 4:03 PM, Serena Cantor wrote: (BTW: can you recommend other TV-watching packages in etch?) I've always liked tvtime. It does on-the-fly deinterlacing. Very nice image quality, although at the expense of higher CPU usage. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Thanks! I am busy putting mplayer and tvtime to work. I have just installed vlc, its configuration is not that easy. I will try later on. I have to sign off the list. Thanks again! --- Douglas A. It will also do deinterlacing, and since I'm running with the nVidia driver it happens in hardware. Doug. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? If you want to run a command every time you logout, you can add it to ~/.bash_logout file (Assuming bash is your login shell). If you are running a command in the background and you want it to keep running even after you logout, you can use nohup. Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! If yours does that, then you can forward all the tcp traffic on ports 80 (http) and 443 (https) to the machine you want to act as the webserver. Or should I connect the Web server directly to cable modem, and use Linux Masquerading to offer Internet access to the other PC? I prefer the former option where possible, since it provides an additional layer of security. HTH, Raj Kiran Shape Yahoo! in your own image.
