Can I setup my computer to print off of a windows network?
Right now i do not have a printer attached to my computer. But, I am networked with another computer in my house that IS connected to a printer. However, that computer is running WinXP Home. Can I set up Debian Unstable (with 2.6.9) kernel to print off of that printer like you can using windows networking? Thanks! Installing 2.6.9 Kernel
I am running Debian Unstable. Currentley I have the 2.4.27-1-386 debian default kernel installed. I want to install kernel 2.6.9 because it has support for certain features of my hardware. (such as my soundcard that is disturbingly un-functional in 2.4.27. I have read through various sites about how to install kernels, but, I want to know what you think is the BEST option for installing. (preferablly the EASIEST method as I have never installed a kernel before. I have been using debian for about 5 months, and three months ago i wiped winblows xp off my computer, so, i still have a LOT to learn.) How do you make mkinitrd work!?
Ive downloaded, configured, compiled and installed kernel 2.6.9 BUT- . the only thing I have left to do is "mkinitrd" Im not sure what commands I should be putting in... im trying: metion:/home/metiosarius/src/linux-2.6.9# mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9.img 2.6.9 $Id: mkinitrd,v 1.201 2004/05/16 22:00:48 herbert Exp $ Usage: /usr/sbin/mkinitrd [OPTION]... -o outfile [version] Options: -d confdir Specify an alternative configuration directory. -k Keep temporary directory used to make the image. -m command Set the command to make an initrd image. -o outfile Write to outfile. -r root Override ROOT setting in mkinitrd.conf. No Sound On My System
When I first installed my system, It played sounds without a problem. Now, everytime I load, it tells me that either my sound device, or sound driver, do not exist. How do I go about determining the source of the problem, and then correcting it? I have a C-Media soundcard. Configuring X/Xfree86 for higher resolution....
Hi; I cannot remember what to type in my shell to bring up the xfree86 configuration tool so I can set my resolution higher than the current 800x600 that is driving me insane. Ive tried xfree86 --config xfree86config And I belive it is something similar to those, but, im not sure which! Help please? Multiple Hard Drives
Yet another question from me. I have two maxtor hardrives, but, debian isnt even showing that I have a second hard drive. I want to format the second hardrive to EXT3 so its compatible with the OS, but, if its not showing up anywhere that I can see, what should I do? Problems finding X when configuring
Whenever i try to configure anything (by running ./configure), It always stops at /Checking for X/ or /Checking for libXext/ or /Checking for X Includes/ . Im fairly sure that my computer has xfree86 installed, (ive ran */apt-get install xserver-xfree86/*) and i believe the directory to xserver stuff is at /*/usr/X11R6/lib/X11*/. So, ive even tried running configuring scripts with the command */./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/ /*But, i am fairly new to linux, so, maybe I am missing something obvious to everyone else. Can someone help me figure out why I cant get anything to configure past this point? Thanks!
