Mouse pointer in KDE
Hello, I wonder why do I get an X shaped mouse pointer in KDE 1.1.1. under slink. It happens when I move the pointer to the desktop. Its no big deal, but it doesn't happen with other window managers. When I start kwm from WindowMaker, it doesn't happen either. Tamas
File system questions
Hi everybody, Is there a way to read/write an NTFS drive in slink? (I coud not find a driver in modconf.) How can I use the nls_* file system types? I guess I need nls_cp852 and/or nls_iso8859_2 for Hungarian nls support, but I found no difference after I installed them. Thanks, Tamas
How to fully utilise a 10 GB harddisk
Hi folks, I got a 10 GB IDE harddisk (/dev/hda), but cfdisk 0.81 of slink only sees approx. 7.5 GB of it: 240 heads x 63 sect/track x 1023 cyls = 15467760 total sectors How can I use the missing 2.5 GBs? The machine is a rather up-to-date PIII. It came with NT Wstn preinstalled, and that saw all 10 GBs. After I erased NT and tried to reinstall it (surptise, surprise), the NT installer only saw approx. 8 GBs... This is a bit confusing to me. I try to RTFM, but any help would be appreciated.
How to make work an Intel PRO/100+ PCI ethernet card
Hi people, I am wrestling with the subject card, which is intagrated in a Compaq Deskpro EN. I use slink. I tried all the Intel net modules with modconf, but without success. I get constantly the XXX: init_module: device or resource busy message, XXX being the pathname of the module. Any ideas what to do next? (Besides buying a well-known adapter, of course :-)).
RE: How to make work an Intel PRO/100+ PCI ethernet card
Ray, Halis, Thanks, it works now with eepro100. I had to change the BIOS settings. (Disabled the 'fancy' features.) Instaling slink on Compaq Deskpro
Hi everybody, I am trying to install slink on a Compaq Deskpro EN Series SSF. I am newcomer to Linux, so these questions might be trivial... 1. I have a 10GB hard disk, but cfdisk shows only slightly less then 8 GB total capacity. What's wrong? 2. What networking module should I select for the built-in ethernet adapter? The documentation that came with the machine does not contain any useful information. 3. Will XFree run with the built-in video adapter ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X? I searched debian.org and it seems to me that it is not supported... Any workaround? Tamas
