hdc: no response (status = 0xd0)
I've installed Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 on a new machine from CD. The basic installation went OK, until I made a reboot. After that, the CD drive is not recognized (boot from floppy or disk): ide: i82371 PIIX (Triton) on PCI bus 0 function 57 ide0: BM-DMA at 0xfcd0-0xfcd7 ide1: BM-DMA at 0xfcd8-0xfcdf hda: WDC AC34300L, 4104MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=523/255/63, UDMA hdc: no response (status = 0xd0) ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 but, if I boot from CD and mount /dev/hda2 as root partition, the CD drive is recognized: ide: i82371 PIIX (Triton) on PCI bus 0 function 57 ide0: BM-DMA at 0xfcd0-0xfcd7 ide1: BM-DMA at 0xfcd8-0xfcdf hda: WDC AC34300L, 4104MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=523/255/63, UDMA hdc: ATAPI CDROM, ATAPI CDROM drive ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15 The kernel is from kernel-image-2.0.34_2.0.34-4.deb and I also tried with custom kernel, with no success. How to map + under X?
Hi, On my notebook, the numeric keypad is embedded into main keypad. When it is active, the key-symbols: 7,8,9,0,u,i,... can't be used. Because I use Jed in EDT mode, and the frequent switching is very annoying, I changed following lines in /etc/kbd/default.map: alt keycode 8 = KP_7 alt keycode 9 = KP_8 alt keycode 10 = KP_9 alt keycode 11 = KP_Multiply alt keycode 22 = KP_4 alt keycode 23 = KP_5 alt keycode 24 = KP_6 alt keycode 25 = KP_Subtract alt keycode 28 = KP_Enter alt keycode 36 = KP_1 alt keycode 37 = KP_2 alt keycode 38 = KP_3 alt keycode 39 = KP_Add alt keycode 50 = KP_0 alt keycode 52 = KP_Period alt keycode 53 = KP_Divide Doing so, the Jed EDT mode under console works fine: +7 is KP_7, etc... But I don't know how to do the same under X Windows. Any help is appreciated. Best regards. Problem with xscreensaver & xdm
Hi, I've installed xscreensaver and added line: xscreensaver -silent -timeout 5 -cycle 5 & in the /etc/X11/Xsession. But it fails to start with message: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server Error: Can't open display: :0 I use xdm to start X. If startx is used instead, everything is OK. Another strange thing with regard to xdm is that SHELL variable is not set. Any help is appreciated. Best regards. Xterm and TERMCAP
Hi, I have problems with xterm. When it is opened the TERM and TERMCAP environment variables are set to: TERM=xterm TERMCAP=co#80:li#24: I use Jed editor and if I want to edit file the "Terminal not powerful enough for SLang." message appears. When TERMCAP is unset Jed works OK. Another problem is that command history keys ( up/down arrows) dont work. Next or previous command is appended to the current instead of replace it. __ Dr. Zlatko Rek | Phone:+386 61 177 3746 Jozef Stefan Institute | +386 61 177 3900 National Supercomputing Centre | Fax: +386 61 219 385 Jamova 39, P.O.BOX 300 | E-mail:[EMAIL PROTECTED] SI-1001 Ljubljana, SLOVENIA | http://www2.ijs.si/~rek/ __ -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Linux <---> Windows NT RAS callback?
