USB (permissions ?) problem on newly installed Bullseye : usb scanner wont communicate

Hi to Everyone,
My old Debian Stretch having crashed after last update, I installed 
Bullseye. Most things operate OK after re-installing,

except so far: 'gphoto2' and my Epson Scanner Perfection v500.
I have re-installed the scanner using :

epsonscan2_6.7.43.0-1_amd64.deb and
epsonscan2_non-free-plugin_1.0.0.6-1.deb

and the installed went Ok ; the scanner is reckognised and it appears on 
the list...


But it does not operate !

Upon launching, it says:

"impossible to communicate with the scanner... Verify if it is connected 
to usb port and powered on..."


then appears a box showing : "EPSON EPSON scanner : USB:001:009",
and I can't connect to it.

Same thing with "gphoto2"

once my camera is connected to usb port :

$ gphoto2 --auto-detect

=> CANON EOS 600D
usb: 001,015

OK, it is reckognized... but, now if I type:

gphoto2 -L

"Impossible to communicate with the USB peripherics..."

Back to my scanner :

# sane-find-scanner

...Could not fetch...
   Pipe error
   found USB scanner vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON] , PRODUCT=0x0130 [EPSON 
Scanner] at libusb:001:009



ls -l /dev/bus/usb/001/009

J'ai tenté de bidouiller le bios, et d'activer : Network Stack 
Configuration (disabled ==>enabled).

Activated support for
IPV4 PXE Support
IPV4 HTTP support
IPV6 PXE support
IPV6 HTTP support

Starting HTTP boot over IPV4

(longue attente)

Puis reboot

WiFi : ==> connexion filiaire en cours (attente de près de deux minutes)
puis ==> câble débranché
et çà recommence : connexion filiaire en cours

pendant ce temps, il y a bien clignotement lumineux sur le port éthernet 
au dos du boîtier


Et çà continue d'afficher: "Connexion filiaire en cours 100 Mbs"
puis: "câble débranché"
et à nouveau : "Connexion filiaire en cours 100 Mbs"

et ainsi de suite et ainsi de suite...

et après 5 ou 6 de ces cycles : ==> connecté 100 Mbs !

mais, après quelques dizaines de secondes, çà recommence :

"Câble débranché"
"Connexion filiaire en cours ..."

Je dois dire que j'ai désactivé le WiFi, mais çà n'a pas permis une 
connexion filiaire plus durable.


Si les spécialistes veulent jeter un oeil à la portion de mon 
/var/log/messages qui concerne ces essais, je le mets en pièce attachée 
(si les pièces attachées sont acceptées sur cette liste, sinon je le 
mettrai en ligne d'une autre façon)

Stretch: problème avec Ethernet Controller RTL8111

Bonjour à tous,
Je viens d'installer Stretch sur mon nouveau desktop. A l'installation, 
impossible d'avoir une connexion filiaire Ethernet, j'ai dû me contenter 
d'une connexion WiFi. Une fois installé, toujours pas de connexion. Le 
contrôleur graphique me dit : "Réseau" "Filiaire" "câble débranché", ce 
qui n'est évidemment pas le cas.


lspci me dit : Ethernet controller RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit 
Ethernet Controller... ... kernel driver in use : r8169. Kernel module 
r8169.


Cet Ethernet Controller est partie intégrante de ma **Carte mère 
Gigabyte H110M-S2H **


Parmi les messages dans /var/log/messages, j'ai récupéré notamment 
notamment ceux-ci :

Need Help restoring a filesystem on an external drive WD 'My Book'

Hi to Everyone,

My

WD P/N : WD1H 1Q

S/N : WCAU4D 164675

is about 4 or 5 years old. It is an external drive using external power 
supply. At start, I had formatted it in ext3, so that I 'd be able to 
storage videofiles larger than 2 Gb. Since then, I storaged a number of 
files in several directories, subdirectories etc.. I never had any 
problem until now.


This drive no longer mounts. It does not mount automatically as it used 
to, and I don't know how to mount it manually. My other similar drives 
mount on /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sr0... depending on to which computer I mount 
it. In case it doesn't automatically mount, I just type :


#mount /dev/sdb1 /media/bd/ext

and it works

but right now I don't know for sure the device name to mount.

If I list my /dev directory using ls -lt, I can see what new device 
appears in the list whenever I plug my external drive. It shows 'sdb'. 
Not 'sdb1' as for other external drives, just 'sdb'. If now I type :


# mount /dev/sdb /media/bd/ext

this gets the external drive to react : the light goes up and down for 
awhile, and then I get this message :


'you must specify the filesystem'

But, if I try :

# mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb /media/bd/ext

I get this : 'wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb…'

same result if I try mounting on 'fat', 'msdos'… filesystems, but I 
doubt if there are any FAT or msdos space left on this device since I 
had reformated it to ext3.


At last, I tried :

# fsck /dev/sdb (the external drive starts to light, then :

'fsck ext2 : superblock invalid. Trying to backup blocks

fsck ext2 : bad magic number in superblock while trying to open /dev/sdb

Now, if I type :

cat /proc/scsi/scsi

I get this :

scsi0 ATA MAXTOR STM

scsi1 ATA MAXTOR STM

scsi5 WD My Book Direct Access


/etc/fstab

does not show any sdb device

How am I to get this drive back to operation, or, at least, to 
recuperate the datafiles that are stored in that WD external drive ?


Thanks in advance to tell me what diagnosis and repair tools I could use

Clavier: comportement erratique

Bonjour à tous,
Je suis sous Ubuntu 14.04 sur un portable Clevo. Auparavant, c'était 
13.04 sur le même PC (depuis 18 mois) et je n'avais jamais connu ce 
souci, et pas non plus avec 14.04 jusqu'à il y à 48 heures.


Désormais, très fréquemment, je retrouve mon clavier en QUERTY !  Si je 
fais un reboot, c'est toujours du QUERTY... jusqu'à ce que j'ai modifié 
quelque chose, pas toujours la même chose. Ce qui a fonctionné la fois 
précédente, ne fonctionne pas la fois suivante, il faut trouver une 
autre modif. Si je clique sur l'icône paramètres système = matériel 
= clavier... je vois s'afficher un clavier AZERTY... et pourtant, à 
l'usage, c'est bien du QUERTY et c'est le 'q' qui s'affiche si je tape 
'a' dans une fenêtre, qu'il s'agisse d'un terminal X ou d'une quelconque 
application (LibreOffice, Firefox...). Si j'affiche la liste des langues 
installées, il n'y a que le Français. Auparavant, il y avait Français et 
Anglais, Français en premier. Au premier souci (avant hier) j'ai 
supprimé l'anglais, et çà a rétabli le clavier AZERTY... temporairement, 
jusqu'au prochain boot où le QUERTY est revenu, avec seulement le 
Français comme langue affichée dans les préférences système. J'ai alors 
remis l'anglais en seconde position... et çà m'a restauré mon AZERTY... 
pour une seule session !  Retour au QUERTY... cette fois j'ai réussi à 
revenir à l'AZERTY en modifiant:


Système de saisie au clavier: IBUS == aucun !

çà paraît fonctionner... pour cette fois, le bénéfice de cette modif va 
sans doute cesser au prochain reboot !


La modification que je fais du clavier paraît être réinitialisée à 
chaque reboot !  Au cours de ces pérégrinations il est arrivé qu'un 
reboot n'accepte pas mon mot de passe ; c'est qu'en effet il comporte un 
'a'... j'ai dû, pour rentrer, taper la touche 'q' au lieu du 'a'... mais 
cela n'a eu lieu qu'une seule fois, à part cette fois là, mon système 
accepte toujours le 'a' à la saisie du pswd, quelle que soit la 
configuration du clavier que je vais trouver en arrivant.


A un moment donné, j'ai cru que ma connexion Internet était fautive: je 
suis actuellement dans ma caravane, connecté via un système 4G Bouygues 
Télécom... mais je crois de moins en moins à cette hypothèse.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just now installed libarchive-ar-perl,
but Ark still cannot recognize AR archive :-(
Strangely, it can open .DEB which is also a type of AR archive, but
not pure AR archives themselves.

Viewing contents of AR archive in KDE

Hi,

Like y'all know, AR archive is used for static libraries [ libxyz.a ].
When opening it with Ark (KDE 4.4.5, Squeeze), it pops with with error
Unable  to determine archive type. Instead it presents a list of all
archive formats which it recognizes, but this list does not include AR
archive.

I know that I can view/extract the archive using CLI (ar t and ar
x) but would like to do it in GUI mode, with Ark. Note that, I'm not
interested in modifying the archive, just view it and extract it
to a temporary folder. It was working in KDE 3.5 (also with Gnome's
Fileroller). I also asked this question in Debian forums and IRC, but
no satisfactory answer.

Thanks Bob, Tom and Porcia ! Bob's Bohr model of linux kernel was an
excellent one. I was just curious to know the nomenclature of that
package  now i have an idea of what happens. I'm happy with current
kernel because all my hardware is detected/working properly, so I find
no reason to upgrade to 3.1.x.y. I must congratulate Debian team for
making Squeeze -- I mean, it refuses to crash !

 Yeah, that's got nothing to do with your Lenny install, most likely.
 
 First run 'mdadm -D /dev/md0', confirm that this raid1 is broken -- no 
 redundancy; your data is at risk.
 
 Next run 'mdadm -E /dev/sda1' and 'mdadm -E /dev/sdb1', confirm that 
 /dev/sdb1 
 is part of the same raid set -- differences only in 'Update Time', 
 'Checksum', 
 'Events', 'Array Slot', and 'Array State'.
 
 Finally run 'mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1' to start the rebuild.  I hope 
 your disk hasn't failed.

According to someone else's advice, I ran just :

mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1

and it worked right away. Since that partition /dev/sda1 and its
mirror /dev/sdb1 are small (about 500 MB), the process was instant.
After reboot, the changes remain, and I no longer have system messages.

However, when shutting down, I always have a message saying
that /dev/mapper/vg00-root could not be unmounted since it is in use...
The message goes very quickly, and I don't know where I could find a log
of this. In any case, the shutdown process keeps going and it goes like
this each time.

Opinión sobre mi seguridad

Buenas, hace poco he establecido un nuevo método de seguridad que no se 
si tiene agujeros o no (quiero decir, agujeros importantes, no digo que 
no pueda ser hackeado por alguien con conocimientos).



Tengo iptables con frontend shorewall, y mi configuración básicamente es 
ésta:



- Rechazar TODA conexión entrante y saliente como política por defecto 
de red local, internet, y de hacia el firewall (es decir, TODO).



- Reglas específicas: Aceptar DNS (mis 2 DNS de telefónica), aceptar 
http sólo para los servidores que yo incluyo (www.google.es, etc), 
aceptar https del mismo modo.



De esta forma, teóricamente sólo puedo conectarme y ser conectado por 
las direcciones específicas que he colocado.



Y bien, ¿es un buen método de seguridad o realmente tiene problemas de 
seguridad? Me gustaría saberlo para así seguir haciendo unas u otras 
modificaciones de seguridad, y poder tener más o menos una idea de lo 
que he puesto ahora mismo.



Sobre la comodidad de sólo poder a acceder a limitados servers, no es 
problema, ya que tengo otro ordenador Windows con menos restrictividad 
que uso de forma normal (no hay configurada regla para realizar una 
conexión entre los dos PCs).



Muchísimas gracias por vuestra ayuda y perdón por escribir en dos listas 
a la vez, es que tengo bastante curiosidad por hallar una respuesta.
