gs testing on stable

2001-12-10 Thread robin . c . smith
I need to install gs from testing on my stable system.

So I tried:-

apt-get source gs --compile

This retrieved the files and tried to comiple them but ended with an error
on dh_clean.
The error I get is:-
dh_clean: Sorry, but 2 is the highest compatability level of debhelper
currently supported.

I searched the internet and found the same problem for another app and the
suggested solution is to set DH_COMPAT=2, this doesn't fix it.

How do I get gs ( or any other app ) to build neatly from source using
apt-get source?

Thanks in advance

Robin

Is there a HOWTO or other guide on how to setup lpr/lpd to
be able to print PDF files?

Quoting Andrew Perrin([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
I'm having trouble compiling the cs89x0_cs module for a recycled IBM
EtherJet PCMCIA card, and wondering if:

1.) Anybody has one precompiled that I can pinch (kernel is:
 achebe:/src# uname -a
 Linux achebe 2.2.17 #1 Sun Jun 25 09:24:41 EST 2000 i586 unknown

 stock from potato 2.2r0)

 or,
2.) Anyone can give me some advice on compilation. I don't have kernel
sources on the laptop (it's an old machine without enough disk space) so
I have to do everything via nfs-mounted directories on my other machine.

 Thanks for any help.

I picked a couple of those cards from ComputerGeeks. I had to go to
http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-4GHMN7.html?lang=en_USpage=brandbrand
=IBM+Options%7CEthernet+
to get the info on them as well as the setup utility pgm.

As the Geeks said they worked with the ne2000 I tried it and it worked
fine. I did have to run the DOS setup util to switch the IRQ.

I am not running a 2.2.x kernel so can't help there. I am running
potato 2.2r3 with the 2.4.4 kernel .The cs89x0_cs is included in it
if you really want to use it.

:-) HTH, YMMV, HAND :-)

Has anyone setup a video capture card and scripted it to write to CD?

I would like to know how good quality thye results were etc.

2001-01-30 Thread robin . c . smith
I have done something to my box ( I was using unstable for a while and ran
out of disk space ), I do not have perl on my box anymore :-(

I tried apt-get install perl but this uses /usr/sbin/dpkg-preconfigure which
is a perl scrit! So how can I put perl onto this box in a neat way?

RE: NIC identification

2001-01-17 Thread robin . c . smith
If you want to find the vendor of any piece of eletrical equipment and you
can find the FCC code on it then go to http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/ and
type that number in.

Works every time

if its netware approved you might try the ne2k driver, that thing works
for a lot of cards with that sticker, also if you can figure out the
card's MAC address (in the form of xx:xx:xx:yy:yy:yy and often on the
card
somewhere) then search google for a MAC address to vendor converter and
pop on the xx:xx:xx from the mac addr and it will give you the vendor of
the card and then you can check thier website for the model number and
try
and figure out what driver to use

 well the things we learn..

any ideas what the MAC might look like? where it may be?
It looks like a serie of hexadecimal numbers (xx and yy are he in the
example above). It can be found in the card's eeprom(not bootprom), but to
get there you should know the cardtype, and that is the problem (I
beliove)
