gcc howto
Hi, My aim is to have a Debian system running gcc 3.0.4 and libc6 2.2.5 with kernel 2.4.18. (Was running potato r0 gcc 2.95.2 libc 2.1.3) First I've done the update by apt-get. Then I have manually compiled (against libc6-2.1.3) and installed gcc 3.0.4 with default directory (--prefix=/usr/local) and meet the requirements for a 2.4.18 kernel. Kernel was then upgraded to 2.4.18 Now I also compile and installed glibc-2.2.5 from tarball and installed by make install which puts them to /usr/local/lib and run ldconfig. When I try to re-compile gcc 3.0.4 against libc6 2.2.5, gcc refuses to run. How to get them work together ? Hi, Apart from alsa-config you need alsa-driver-0.5.10b.tar.bz2 alsa-lib-0.5.10b.tar.bz2 alsa-utils-0.5.10.tar.bz2 and install them in the same order. check out the ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/ for newer versions. regards, sherab On Sat, May 26, 2001 at 06:32:07PM -0700, Reza wrote: Hi anyone... Re: need help with ALSA / soundcard
Hi Vester, To use alsa-sound you don't need to configure the oss either as module or build-in while you build your kernel image. It was documented in the alsa-driver-0.5.10b.tar.bz2 package. Just configure the sound support in module or build-in, then compile your kernel as usual. If oss was build as module there will be a soundcore.o file in your /lib/modules/... directory. I don't know whether this helps or not. I am scared to provide infos', since I am still a newbie. yours, Sherab i'm using a vaio notebook with a yamaha ymf-754 soundcard on debian/testing. i compiled the kernel with CONFIG_SOUND CONFIG_SOUND_OSS and CONFIG_SOUND_YMFPCI as modules (i know that the last one is the correct module for my soundcard, because it worked with my old suse system) and succesfully loaded the modules -- however i didn't hear sound with xmms since i used alsa drivers in my old suse configuration i apt-get installed alsaconf...but alsa doesn't detect my soundcard automatically, so i selected it myself which didn't work either. the alsa script gives me the following output: Starting ALSA sound driver (version none):modprobe: Can't locate module snd no driver installed what can i do to make sound work? i don't particularly need to use alsa -- i just want to have the soundcard working anyway i can! thanks! vester -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Compiling mc-4.5.44 [no:command not found]
Hi Fracesco, Thanks for your reply. No you are not wrong, according to another source of email message posted on : http://www.gnome.org:65348/mc/maillist/100-07/ 14175.964261019.332231733.html It also mentions about gettext. Then I checked my system, there is no gettext installed. So I installed gettext-0.10.35 and re-configured mc-4.5.44, make yields no error this time and finally installed mc. Thanks for your help. BTW, the old config.log do not mention about msgfmt but an error to xpm.h which is concerning X windows. I havn't installed that package yet. Cheers. 'no' is probably the substitution string taht 'configure' used when it didn't find this program ( the configure script should have failed; check your config.log if you still have it ) Finally, dpkg -S msgfmt says : MyDesktop:~$ dpkg -S msgfmt gettext: /usr/bin/msgfmt So, try intalling gettext package and compiling again. Re: [Re: gIDE make error]
Hi [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Thanks very much for your kind informative link to code-crusader. I've visited the site and found the powerfull features it provides. Then I downloaded and installed it. But more questions are coming. 1. From ftp://ftp.its.caltech.edu/pub/jafl/programs/jcc/Linux-Intel it advices to do a ls -l /lib/libc* if I don't know which version of glibc I've installed. So, I haven't installed the Linux-Intel_glibc_kit as adviced. 2. When I bring up the xterm in X-windows and typed jcc as root jcc said: Assertion failed: its Stream - good() code/JFileArray.cc:267 Aborted. When I read the FAQ.gz that comes with code-crusader, it saids delete the file ~/.jxcb.pref The problem is I can't find the file. Where is it ? Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.
