Never irc'd. I have heard a number of reports that they can be quite
scalding. However, if they don't mug the newbies non-geek users, I guess
 that's fine.

The scars have healed nicely, thanks.

Much less frightening than you'd think. Read the /topic, don't ask to
ask, ask smart questions, and use pastebins if you need to post more
than a line of output.

Essentially I just defaulted my wife/kids to use Linux by not buying
Windows at the time I bought her new computer (kit from NewEgg).

Not much griping b/c years earlier I installed Tbird, FF OOo on their
dual-boot Windows PC on which I later added Ubuntu. Try it. It'll be
a tad different, but will mostly work the same w/ the same apps you're
used to. And no worries over viruses, malware, etc. (The kids were
easier, since they were/are young enough to just *tell* them what to do.)

Yes, this is the correct place.

Debian New User Questions

2002-11-02 Thread Martin Hooper
I have installed Woody and got up a minimal GUI interface using wmaker.

I installed with the bf24 kernel.

I need answers to a couple of questions:

1. How do I create /dev/usb/lp1 for use with Cups?

2. X is displaying some rather large fonts than would be normal. How
would I change the font size? It is in all applications.

Thanks in advance!

Martin Hooper
