TIA. newt0.30 has been replaced by libnewt0. i can't even find newt0.30 on the mirrors i use (http.us.debian.org mostly) anymore. There was a posting on here a while ago about a fix for newt0.30 dependency problmes a little while ago, but the message archives don't seem to have caught up yet. newt0.30 - a potato problem
When I try to install the latest mc I get a problem with newt dependancies: Depends: libc6, libc6 (= 2.0.7u-6), slang1 ( 1.3), slang1 ( 1.2.2-0) So if I install mc along with slang1_1.3.9-1 I will to lose newt, whiptail, modconf and pppconfig. The latest whiptail (version 0.50-4) depends on libnewt0. modconf and pppconfig would only have been removed because they depend on whiptail. newt can be safely removed (and IIRC is no longer available). Maybe I need a better mirror, though it's fairly long pipeline out here to Western Australia.
