Kmail problems - please reply offlist
Hi all, I have a serious problem with KMail. If anyone can help could you CC me personally as I have had to unsubscribe from the list. Thanks. I use Kmail with windowmaker on woody, x86 platform. A little over a week ago (when, I think, the KDE upgrades were entering woody) I had a lot of problems with KMail. The first was that KMail was not retrieving mail because it couldn't access something called klauncher. I tracked this down via the list as meaning I had to restart kdeinit. The second was that hen I fixed this I had 600-1000 messages and KMail crashed when it downloaded them. This bug has already been reported on kmail.kde.org. The third problem was with filtering (I deleted some folders, thus breaking the filters) - but I fixed that. The fourth, problem and the one I want help with now, is that when I pop (pop3) messages from our mail server, the downloaded messages appear to have two carriage returns inserted into them at 0 or more random points. This is a BIG problem because when you get two carriage returns in the headers, KMail (and the filters) take this as meaning that the headers are over, thus you cannot filter these messages by any of the herader fields. So I wound up with 600 messages in a folder, 95% of which were from debian-user and mysql mailing lists, and two or three which were urgent or important, almost all with From, To, and Subject fields set to Nobody or Nothing. This is still happening to some of the messages I download: every so often, a couple of carriage returns appear to be inserted, which is annoying for most messages and plain anti-productive when it interferes with filters. If you have any idea what might be wrong, please mail me. Thanks. Gordon

I'm not so much hurried up to solve this problem, but I guess my folders are completely messed-up and I'll need to purge them once the bug gets fixed, and this is very unpleasant. HP DeskJet 600 (please reply private)
hi debian users, does any of you have a HP DescJet 600? If so, I'm interrested in printcap files and which printer packages you have installed (i.e. lprng magicfilter e.d.). I'm also interested in the fact if and as specially (cause if I think is possible) how to print color-pages with this type of printer. I got a color-incholder with it when I bought it, but when I replace the black/white holder with the color one, no color image was printed. Any help would be very welcome. As said in the topic, please reply privately as I'm not a list-member. regrads, --- Andor Demarteau [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---

Re: Please Reply: Kernel compilation straight from the base install...
On Thu, Feb 03, 2000 at 10:23:38AM -0500, Rob Hensley wrote: Hi, I recently installed the potato base system, and wanted to compile my own kernel straight from there. I was wodering what all packages I'd need to download from the debian home page to be able to do this. The reason I have to get them from the debian home page is becuase all I have right now is a win modem, therefore I can't apt-get them. I'll be replacing the modem soon, but for now I'd like to compile the kernel. Please respond soon, thanks in advance. If you install a kernel-source package and whatever dependancies it has, you should be fine. That seems to be binutils, libc-dev, gcc, make, (ncurses-dev for menuconfig or tk-dev for xconfig), bin86 for intel platforms. I'd also recommend kernel-package, to build a kernel image deb like the ones on the Debian mirrors. Dependancies there are perl5, dpkg (duh), dpkg-dev, fileutils, and a recommend for debianutils. Of course, this may not be a complete list... For example, you need bzip2 and tar to unpack the sources from kernel-source-x.y.z. It should get you started though. -- finger for GPG public key. 8 Jan 2000 - Old email addresses removed from key, new added pgpzwuGEoqYKh.pgp Description: PGP signature
Fed Gov Linux User? Please reply.
Hello. In an effort to legitimize my using Linux (Debian, in fact) at work for various jobs both as a server and a desktop client, I'm looking for other users who are also using Linux in their Federal Government jobs. I need to be able to get Linux added to the 'approved' software list, the qualification for that being somewhat vague at this time. However, any references will help if you care to identify yourself by email directly. I will give as little information as possible, no names, but just the agency or department and in what capacity Linux serves. Your agency or department must recognize that Linux is being used and has approved of this use. If you need more info or have a question, please let me know. I use Debian exclusively, which is why I post this here. Let me also terminate this request on 12/10/99 to avoid a continuing or never-ending mail glut to me or the list. thanks, -- tony mollica [EMAIL PROTECTED]

HDDs Linux (please reply to mansoft@maptel.es)
IMPORTANT: PLEASE REPLY TO [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello. I have a doubt. Let's see: Let's imagine that I have 2 hard disks in my computer, each one of 1GB of capacity. Should I create a partition for one disk, and then on the other disk another partition for windows and the rest for linux?
