Ah ça, ça dépend de la configuration. Je vous indiquait ça uniquement parce que vous parliez de l'initrd ...Ca permet de charger des modules nécessaires au boot. S'il n'y en n'a pas dans la configuration d'origine, alors, ce n'est sans doute pas nécessaire non plus que vous en mettiez un. Préciser explicitement le type de la racine évite d'avoir à tester parmi un nombre de fs qui croit régulièrement (1 toutes les 17 secondes en moyenne) (heu non). Depuis 2.5, la tendance est à simplifier le code d'initialisation et à le réduire. Y.

Je pense, mais je ne suis absolument pas sur, que ca vient de la nouvelle gestion des modules. Il y a beaucoup de problemes relatés sur la liste principale Debian (Debian-users). Du coup tu as mis un append dans ton lilo et ca a marché? Non Florent, c'est pas une idée en l'air ca peut venir de la, en revanche le message d'erreur fourni étant tellement clair... ;) Il ne faut pas oublier non PC BIOS (MSDOS partition tables) support dans la configuration du kernel. Moment mal - wenn ich das richtig verstanden hab, kannst Du von der alten Platte booten, solange diese allein im Rechner am Primary Master steckt? Und wenn Du dann an den Secondary Master die andere Platte anstöpselst, dann geht es nicht mehr? Sprich auch dann, wenn Du wirklich an dem einen Kabel nur deine alte Platte als Primay Master (und damit hda) hast und am anderen nur die neue als Secondary Master (und damit hdc)? Ja! Genau so ist das. Ich verstehe die Welt nicht mehr, also ich habe mir schon über 16 Stunden die Zähne ausgebissen, ich kann sobald eine zweite Platte dran ist nichts mehr booten immer die Kernel Panic 03:01. Ich hab sogar schon auf die neue Platte ein FreeBSD draufinstalliert, aber auch da kommt sobald ich die andere Platte dran mache eine Kernel Panic. :((( Das ist dann in der Tat merkwürdig - erkennt denn das BIOS die Platten richtig? Und um welches BIOS handelt es sich? Bei dem Board handelt es sich um ein VIA EPIA-5000 (mit Eden Embedded Prozessor) 533 MHZ fanless. Das BIOS (ich müsste lügen, bin derzeit aber außer Haus) ist ein Award, aber kein Plan was für eine Version, Update gibt es allerdings keins, das weiß ich, da hab ich schon nachgesehen. Danke für die Antworten. Es geht leider noch nichts. Also, das System war bisher auf Primär Master (hda1), die Platte (mit Daten) hängt nun am Secondary Master (hdc). Am Primären Master hab ich nun eine neue Platte (jetzt wegen der 136GB Grenze nur eine 40GB Platte von Maxtor). Diese ist also nun hda. hdc hab ich noch ab. Auf hda (Pri/Master) hab ich ein neues Woody installiert, das läuft auch perfekt. Sobald ich aber nun die alte Platte anschließe (an Secondary Master), dann wird die auch als hdc richtig erkannt, jedoch bootet das neue System (root=/dev/hda2 - Pri Master) dann nicht mehr, es bleibt mit Kernel Panic: Unable to mount root fs 03:01 stehen. Auch habe ich nochmal von der hda das komplett neu installierte Woody runtergeschmissen und die dann als Sec Master und die alte Platte mit dem alten System an Pri Master angeschlossen, aber auch da kommt die Kernel Panic. Wieso? Das doch nur eine neue Platte jetzt in dem Fall an Sec Master (hdc) die mit ins System eingebunden werden soll, da ja jetzt nix drauf. Danke! Mfg Pascal

OK. I booted from the rescue floppy and ran fsck on /dev/hda2. Judging by the messages that streamed by, there were a lot of problems that were fixed. However, when I went back to boot up the system, I got another mess of nasty looking messages: INIT: No inittab file found Enter runlevel: I tried everything from 0 to 3 and got the same result... INIT: Entering runlevel: 2 INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel and it stopped right there. I booted back in with the rescue floppy, and checked out mu /etc directory, and it was full of all sorts of strange files, many of them being *.html files. Whats my best option here? Should I just start from scratch? Is it possible to re-install and re-configure the system with a good chance of keeping everything I have installed so far? Where is your root partition, try booting with the boot option root=/dev/whatever drive your root partition is (possible /dev/hda1). And see what happens.
