Hello,

PHP4 4.4.9 for Debian Squeeze
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=mwB7HgB2

N.B. You need also sablotron 1.0.3 from Lenny
but I can also provide diff file to port it to Squeeze.

Enjoy Abandonware!

Best Regards,

P.S. Maybe after deb archive.debian.org we need also deb abandonware.debian.org
?

Re: php4 on Squeeze?

2011-02-11 Thread Lord Baco
Hi Ed,

Is there a way I can install php4 on my fresh install of Debian 6.0?
I will also need many php4 mods such as gd, mysql, etc.

If you really REALLY want to install php4 on Squeeze
and create a SECURITY HOLE on your Debian 6.0 as
PHP4 is UNMAINTAINED this is how to compile it :
You need from Debian:
php4_4.4.6-2.diff.gz
php4_4.4.6-2.dsc
php4_4.4.6.orig.tar.gz
http://snapshot.debian.org/package/php4/6:4.4.6-2/

You need from me:
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_change.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_config.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_control.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_divert.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_noapache1.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_series.diff
php4_4.4.6-2-baco_zend.diff
http://tinyurl.com/php4-for-squeeze-by-baco-src

Then:
apt-get -y install build-essential
apt-get -y --purge remove autoconf automake
apt-get -y install autoconf automake
apt-get -y install autoconf2.13 # very important !
...
apt-get -y install ...-dev
...

dpkg-source -x php4_4.4.6-2.dsc

cd php4-4.4.6

for ext in control divert config zend series noapache1; do
   cat ../php4_4.4.6-2-baco_$ext.diff | patch --verbose -p1;
done

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b

The compiled i686 .deb are available
http://tinyurl.com/php4-for-squeeze-by-baco-deb

Enjoy (as your own risk)

Guy Baconniere

Im sure you know, that PHP 4 is not supported by PHP itself. So really

As opposed to focussing your energy on getting PHP 4 working, focus on

No, php4 can not easyly compiled under Squeeze/6.0. You have to modify
ANYTHING.

Also php4 is EOL (End-Of-Live) since some time and there are no security
updates from Upstream

Okay, I hope the other three replies you got made this clear: Using PHP4 is
dangerous, do not do it if you do not have to. Even if you have to run PHP4
for now, prioritize moving to PHP5 in the near future.

PHP4 was dropped from Debian (see bug 428266) on or around 2007-07-04, before
Lenny was released. This means that the master repository should no longer
contain PHP4 packages. However, Debian provides two different archival
services that may allow you get .debs or even use an APT repository in order
to install PHP4.

(Method 1.) The most complete is snapshot.d.o. It currently holds dozens of
PHP4 versions http://snapshot.debian.org/package/php4/. For the most
recent version, a large number of binary packages were generated and are
available http://snapshot.debian.org/package/php4/6:4.4.6-2/. When
installing PHP4 using this method, you will download .deb packages and
install them using dpkg. You will have to resolve dependencies manually, but
dpkg will issue a warning that includes enough information for you to look up
those packages on snapshot.d.o as well.

(Method 2.) Less complete, but more familiar to some is archive.d.o. Here,
the last version of each Debian release is archived. You can point apt to
the Etch archive using a line like:
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian etch main
This service also holds a number of other Etch-related APT repositories that
you might want to use when trying to run an Etch system.

When installing via APT, dependencies will be resolved automatically and
pulled from any configured repository. This allows you to try and mix Etch's
PHP4 packages with Lenny's base system (which will still get security
updates) or even Squeeze's kernel (which is fully supported by Debian
Developers right now). While just using Etch packages puts you beyond
support, mixing releases can certainly cause its own trouble.

(Method 3.) If you need a version that was in Debian testing or unstable,
but was never in a released version of Debian and you still want to use APT
to install packages, you'll go back to snapshot.d.o. You might also do this
if the version on archive.d.o has a regression in it. archive.d.o just has
the final state of the repository; snapshot.d.o saves old state as well and
makes them easily accessible by date.

For example, you can use the following line to tell APT to get packages from
Lenny the last time PHP4 was in it (when it was testing) -- 2007-05-29:
deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20070529 lenny main

A second example, you can use the following line to tell APT to get packages
from Sid the last time PHP4 was in it -- 2007-05-01:
deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20070501 sid main

(Conclusion and Recommendation.) Unless you have some specific need that you
didn't mention in your original post, I recommend taking a working Lenny
install and adding Etch from archive.d.o to the available sources. Mixing
Etch and Lenny shouldn't cause too many issues, and I think having security
support for as many packages as possible (the ones you pull from Lenny) is
important enough to balance those issues. Even with that support, you'll
want to step up the level of paranoia in your security practices around that
installation.

You will need to migrate away from PHP4 in less than a year under this plan.
Security support for Lenny will have run out by then. Also, the Etch/Lenny
mixture might continue to give you issues, but you'd lose the benefit of
security support. At that point, mixing Etch with anything with security
support will be untenable. If you want to have PHP4 available indefinitely,
don't mix Lenny and Etch. Just install Etch and be super-isolationist-
paranoid about that install; I'm pretty sure there are known attacks against
some of the software that was in Etch.

I'm speaking from personal experience. When I upgraded from PHP 4
to 5, my PHP-powered sites got a nice speed boost. With PHP 4,
I was using an accelerator, which doesn't work with PHP 5. PHP 5
is as fast, or faster, than PHP 4 with the accelerator. Without
the accelerator, PHP 5 is much faster, on my sites.

Yep! That's why I'm asking. When offered a choice I like to weigh up
other users experiences. Does latest = best or not so stable? ATEOTD
I'll probably go with PHP5 but I'd like to hear if others have some
 horror stories first.

Are there any limiting factors? Do you use anything that must run one or
the other? Since people are shifting to php5, it'd be where the
development is going and any future apps will use it. But of course,
php4 has more testing. But when etch goes stable, it will support php4

installerat).

Pröva aptitude search (se /usr/share/doc/aptitude/README),

Thanks, Mark, after I installed everything that starts with php4- ftp is
now enabled (better cover my behind for future problems). I realised
that ftp chroots the user to their home directory, so the path is wrong.

Ah.. debugging.. not so much fun for us non-coders.
The error msg says enough though. ftp_close() should contain the
connection.. and in this

script is refers a $conn_id .
Now, I can't find the $conn_id anywhere, so null IS expected.
A quick look suggests that you should change the $conn_id in
$connection, as $connection contains

the ftp_connect + info for the connection it self.

I could just as well be off base here, I can't say I'm a coder aswell.

phpinfo();
$server='localhost'; // ftp server
$connection = ftp_connect($server); // connection

hinderlich.

method à POST et

Also die php_cli installieren und wie schon

I haven't really used FGS myself so far, but if I'm understanding
things correctly, the underlying installation concept is to provide a
more or less self-contained setup with its own apache and all required
libraries, including its own version of libssl, and a busload of other
private stuff.

 After it still doesn't work.

 Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/1.3/libphp4.so into
 server: /usr/lib/apache/1.3/libphp4.so: undefined symbol: RAND_load_file

Generally, the RAND_load_file symbol that libphp4.so is missing is
supposed to be provided by libcrypto, as you can verify by doing

$ nm -D /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 | grep RAND_load
00087390 T RAND_load_file

(also see http://www.openssl.org/docs/crypto/RAND_load_file.html)

As you probably figured from this URL, libcrypto is part of the OpenSSL
package, and on debian, libssl is dynamically linked against libcrypto:

$ ldd /lib/libssl.so.0.9.7
libcrypto.so.0.9.7 = /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 (0x40032000)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x40138000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/libc.so.6 (0x4013b000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 = /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x8000)

Yet, for some reason I can't tell, the libssl shipped with FGS does _not_
depend on libcrypto.so.0.9.7

$ ldd /tmp/fgs/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7
libdl.so.2 = /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x400ca000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/libc.so.6 (0x400cd000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 = /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x8000)

Debian's libphp4.so does not explicitly load libcrypto, but instead is
relying on libssl to pull it in as a secondary dependency...
The net effect of all this would be that the symbol would simply not be
made available, in case FGS's libssl should be used.

IOW, I suppose what's happened is that the install script (or you :)
somehow messed up things, so the wrong libssl is being used now.
I can't tell the exact reason, but maybe we'll find out...

One possible issue could be that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting (which
the FGS installation needs to run) somehow still is in effect. In the
setenv.sh script that comes with the FGS package, you can see that it
prepends its own lib path
...
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$FGS_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
...

AFAICT, the installation instructions suggest to source this setenv.sh
in .bashrc.
Have you done that, maybe? If so, in which .bashrc - yours, or root's?
Anything else along these lines you might have done (intentionally or
inadvertently), but then have forgotten about?

Bonjour Matt,

 Merci for your time.

Yes I am using Debian.

For MapTools' FGS base with Chamelon, I used it's own install script.

 For libssl0.9.7, libgnutls11 and php4, I re-installed it using apt-get
install --reinstall.

I'll ask on MapTools if they ever heard their install script causing

Merci beaucoup à la prochaine,

Have you tried running a simple php script that calls the phpinfo()
function to see what modules php thinks is loaded?

If that looks successful, then a Google search for php4-gd test script
appears to have quite a few hits.

Check the results of phpinfo (new php file containing only
?php phpinfo(); ?

and look for the mysql section for more information.

I can think of two possibilities here. The first might be that
php4-mysql is not installed, and the second could be that the mysql api
in php is still a 3.x version. The default password hash in mysql 4.x
changed to a much longer and supposedly more secure key.

If mysql support is not installed, install the php4-mysql package. If it
is a version issue, change your password to use the old hashing type by
logging into the mysql console and setting it using the old_password
command:

mysql set password = old_password('thepassword');

Re: php4 phpmyadmin problem

2005-06-09 Thread Lukas Demetz
Hi there, again it's me :P

After trying and checking, I installed apache2 (and left php4 with its
modules unchanged) and see there, it works without problems. So, my
guess is now that the problem _may be_ with Apache ...

first of all, thanks for your reply. I did what you said, now I sit here
with loads of output. After checking it, I guess the interesting stuff

Before this, it opens other files in /usr/share/phpmyadmin/libraries,
but works ok. Maybe someone could help here? ;)

Hi there,

today I upgraded one of our servers to Debian 3.1, without bigger
problems. Let me list you the old vs. new versions of some interesting
packages:
apache 1.26 - 1.33
php4 4.1 - 4.3 (module)

As now, everything works smoothly (nice work guys! :) ), however, I
noticed a strange behaviour using phpMyAdmin (2.6.2, same as before).
Everytime I try to list the content of a table, I get an empty table. In
addition, there is an error entry in /var/log/apache/error.log:

[notice] child pid 28099 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

To narrow down on the problem, it might help to have an strace of what
exactly is happening immediately before the apache process segfaults.
To get one, just attach strace to one of the apache children (use 'ps axf'
to find out which of the apache processes are children, and their PID,
and then pass that PID to 'strace -f -o /tmp/apache.trace -p PID' --
you need to run strace under the UID of the webserver or as root, btw),
and then simply reload the webpage until that child segfaults...

In the strace output, look for what's happening before the process gets
the SIGSEGV, somewhere at the end. If what you find doesn't make any
sense to you, you might want to post a sensibly trimmed section of the
strace output here for us to look at...

Cheers,
Almut
