Re: Stretch and network management
I think this is a NM issue. I was having difficulty connecting with a USB adapter. Just to make sure it wasn't my adapter, I tried a few different distros (using live CDs) that all used NM, and none of them could connect. As soon as I install WICD, it works flawlessly even after reboot. On Thu, Jun 29, 2017, 18:20 tony mollicawrote: > I prefer to use NM over wicd but I have not sorted this out yet. Re: Stretch and network management
I prefer to use NM over wicd but I have not sorted this out yet. It just happens that wicd connects reliably even though it's display of information isn't quite right. But, it connects and NM will not. I tried Biebl's recommendation but it didn't help. I will get back to this in a few days and try to sort it out. I haven't seen anyone with a similar problem reply or even acknowledge there is a problem. More replies=actual problem. No replies=most likely my config. We'll see. tony On 06/29/2017 12:29 PM, Brian wrote: On Thu 29 Jun 2017 at 07:10:56 -0700, tony mollica wrote: [Snip] Now that I've gotten the network running, That is useful for you but less than useful for users who experience a similar problem, Which part of Michael Biebl's response helped sort you out? Re: Stretch and network management
Thanks, I'll try that but it won't be for a few days. Now that I've gotten the network running, although not the way I'd like it, I have some work to do after two days of recovering from and 'upgrade'. Didn't realize that v9 was released, didn't change the sources.list (my fault) and ran an upgrade that trashed almost everything before I realized what was wrong. Old system unuseable, new v9 is nice but has some issues, at least with my install. A couple more messages to the list are in progress. thanks, tony On 06/28/2017 05:24 PM, Michael Biebl wrote: Am 28.06.2017 um 23:19 schrieb tony mollica: Networkmanager out, wicdin. Could you try adding the following to /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf: [device] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no Also make sure the wifi device is not configured in /etc/network/interfaces. Does that help?

Re: Stretch and network management
Networkmanager out, wicd in. I purge both of these from the system an installed them one at a time, network-manager first. It always connects to the wired interface but won't act reliably with the wireless connection. I tried every which way but get either a 'not managed' or 'not 'available' note in NM no matter what I put in the config files, or not. No difference when using 'managed= TRUE or FALSE , or any other entries for that matter. unreliable. Wicd works and connects first time up after an install and reboot but even so, some of the display information is not reliable. It connects to my wifi but there is no listing for it in the panel, as well as no other wifi networks are listed either. Just a bit more problems and I'll just make it a manual installation or run another cable to bypass the entire issue. Bottom line is there is something amiss with network interaction with both of these tools with the change from jessie to stretch. tjm On 06/28/2017 11:18 AM, Brian wrote: On Tue 27 Jun 2017 at 17:45:36 -0700, tony mollica wrote: [No quoted text from me. I'd go back to the pristine state without wicd on the machine and try again. Maybe purge n-m and reinstall. But that sounds a bit drastic.

Connman could not get any action. When I used wicd the wifi was turned off, even though right before the last shutdown it was connected and I did nothing to any related settings. I turned it on and everything worked again. I wouldn't have made a big deal about it till I read this message.
Stretch and network management
Hello. Can anyone provide insight as to why my usb wifi Netgear WNDA4100 (rt3573) won't connect or show up in NetworkManager(applet) but will be managed normally with the Wicd Network Manager? This is a brand new, clean install of Stretch and it doesn't appear to matter whether both management progs are operating at the same time or separately. Wicd always works and NetworkManager won't. I liked the control I had with NM working with v8 but no such luck with v9. Any suggestions on what to look for that may be keeping this interface hidden? Show up normally but not connected with ifconfig/iwconfig. thanks, tony
