RE: Re: Version of Gnome [See Original Message Below]
After reading this post I changed my Lenny repos to unstable and installed
gnome-desktop without error. I am in it right now
Do you mean gnome-desktop-environment?
May I know its version, 1:2.22.2~5 or 1:2.24.2~2?
Thank you.

Having been a long time KDE user, I thought I might take a look at
Gnome.
Even though I am running unstable, the Gnome in Debian seems to be
v2.22, whereas Gnome seems to have, 6 months ago released 2.24, and
then just recently released 2.26.
Is there a particular reason whilst Gnome is so

For me, it's always displayed on the splash screen, when Gnome starts.
Anyway, dpkg -l gnome-core or dpkg -l|grep gnome should give you a hint.
and if I am not using the 2.4
How do I know which version of GNOME I am using?
(I used apt-get from ftp.us.debian.org for stable version)
and if I am not using the 2.4 version, how do I get the latest version?

could try the package 'gnome-sawmill'.
How does one upgrade Gnome to the new Helix code so that I can
see if this fixes my 2.2_r0 install?
I just wanted to mention Helix GNOME. :)
The GNOME version in Potato is quiet old, Helix GNOME is quiet
uptodate (same for the Debian GNOME in Woody
I have Debian 2.2_r0. I added:
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org stable/updates main contrib non-free
to my /etc/apt/sources.list, then I did an apt-get
The latest version of gnome-apt is not compatible with the rest of
the potato libraries. Is there a newer ? 0.3.4
thanks

And if so, is there any chance that it will ever be in a deb?
Also, is there any way I can reduce the amount of memory used

(hablo
