I was also very disappointed that quanta disappeared in squeeze. As an
alternative to setting quanta on hold I tried the ubuntu maverick
packages. They managed to include Quanta-KDE3 in a KDE4 System. The
packages needed are
kfilereplace-kde3_3.5.10-0ubuntu4_i386.deb

Before upgrading to KDE4, I just put quanta on hold, along with the
other applications of kdewebdev:

Squeeze has KDE SC 4 and no KDE 3. Squeeze does have some KDE 3 libraries,
but it does not have enough of a functioning KDE 3

You could create a livecd/dvd with Lenny and Quanta (with whatever
extensions you need). Then boot that up and work from that when you
need
