Does pppd dump core? Yes pppd runs, yes the modem dials, and no it dosn't core dump. I was wrong eailier when I said the nothing got output to ppp.log. I had used rm and touch to clear the logs (so I could differitate the new from the old) and it reacently occured to me that I was proably clobbering syslog's file descriptors. So I saved a blank file over them instead and the logging worked fine. I added kdebug 1 to the end of /etc/ppp/peers/provider and got some more output, but I don't know if what I got is normal or not. I've got a similar problem since I upgraded to pppd 2.3.9 (the kernel is 2.2.12). It simply refuses to set up the default route to the remote gateway (and the `defaultroute' option is set). The common factors seems to be things that involve tty devices (serial, IrDA) that work in 2.0.x but not in 2.2.12. Problems have been reported with PalmPilots, a digital camera, PPP, and some kind of wand thing with a serial interface. The clearest example of the problem (because it doesn't involve any fancy protocol) is the original message ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which described characters being dropped, duplicated, and swapped.
