Hi Klaumi, Your message helped me solve the problem.
It turned out that setting the microphone level in Input devices unlocked the recording volume setting, and ever since this setting the volume in "Recording" tab works! Now I have been able to lower the volume and get the microphone working back to sensible levels. Thank you so much!
