I guess the developers figured that these modules are not necessary,
since most apps today of course play well together with the alsa drivers.

I am not 100% sure but I think you need
alsa-oss - ALSA wrapper for OSS applications
to be able to use dsp.
if i'm not mistaken, the proper way to do it is to go into /dev as root and
run ./MAKEDEV audio.
