Is there a sample cfg file?

What and where can I get the scripts?

I would like to get this set up right away and avoid this in the future

Hi Harry -

HiJack will do what you need to here. I have two client's who send out mass
emails (about 1000-1500) and HiJack stops it every time (it even stopped me
once!). I have a script to check the hold directory for messages, and
when I am alerted I simply go in and see whether or not they are legitimate.
If they are, I can use the tool that Declude included to quickly move them
back for processing.

You can then add the person's IP to the available bulk senders. However,
if their IP address changes (which has been the case for me) then that
doesn't do much good either. Regardless, once I'm alerted I can usually
login and approve the messages within a short amount of time. The client
doesn't really know there was a hold up.

Everything that has been stopped has been legitimate (knocking on wood) so I
haven't had to test it on a real threat. But it's good to know that it does
the job it should.

How can I prevent this when I am using whitelist auth or do I need to turn

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] whitelist auth and spammer infested computer

2008-08-12 Thread Todd Richards
Harry -

When I upgraded a few years ago to the Declude suite, it came with it and
was running after install. In fact, it held up a mass mailing by one
client and it took me a little bit to figure out what happened (I didn't
fully understand what it was that I upgraded too!)

So the first thing I guess you should do is make sure you actually have
HiJack?

whitelist an email.

2005-11-17 Thread Travis Sullivan

I have 7.11 :-(
And don't plan on upgrading...so the Whitelist AUTH is useless to me?

Richard Farris

Yes, that is correct. That is a new feature in imail 8+

I don't see it as that big of a benefit really. With combo filters, good
use of declude pro's content scanning (headers, body, subject) built in
tests, dns tests, ip4 tests... carefully planned counter balances, use of
the many tests from matt's web site I don't feel the need to whitelist
authenticated users.

I have several test email accounts throughout the net, and many spam-trap as
well. Declude's fabulous weighting system really reduces false positives.
An email failing two tests will not get held on my system, it generally
takes at least 3 of the most accurate tests and up to six of the others...

My only wish is that we could setup the global.cfg file to fire the tests in
the order we choose. To ensure counter weights, (ie - microsoft.com -3),
are considered before any other tests are ran.

I don't use any whitelists at all... major cause of increased spam through
the filters.

If you have one user that can't receive email from a source, whitelisting
that user will allow any spam that comes in to be delivered... yikes!!!
Nasty!!! Instead, via the logs, find out the source RVDNS and
counter-blanace that email with a negative weight, start off with even -100
if you have to, then work down from there.

[Declude.JunkMail] Whitelist Auth?

My understanding is that this will whitelist anyone that has

Unfortunately, that isn't possible. There are a number of problems with

You can control this to some degree in your filters with
SKIPIFWEIGHT and
MAXWEIGHT

Also I believe the filters run in order of listing in global config. I suggest you
list your neg filters first and your largest filters last.

Hope this helps

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] WHITELIST AUTH

2003-12-15 Thread John Tolmachoff \(Lists\)
Question, when using this in the Global.cfg and Imail 8.x, do the tests
still run and no action, or does it cause tests not to run?

With PREWHITELIST ON, the tests will not be run (for WHITELIST
AUTH). Otherwise, they will be run

Ok, question on behalf of those using AutoWhite for Declude: Would it be
possible to add a configuration so that certain tests will still run with
PREWHITELIST ON in the Global.cfg?

Something like PREWHITELISTRUNTEST listouttestbyexactname

The reason I ask is because if using PREWHITELIST ON and say WHITELIST AUTH,
the processing of outbound messages so as to add to the list of e-mails in
the AutoWhite for Declude files will not be done, defeating the test.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] WHITELIST AUTH

2003-12-15 Thread R. Scott Perry

Ok, question on behalf of those using AutoWhite for Declude: Would it be
possible to add a configuration so that certain tests will still run with
PREWHITELIST ON in the Global.cfg?
That is very unlikely. The whole point of PREWHITELIST ON is to save CPU
time, by not running any tests when E-mails are whitelisted. Running tests
in this case ends up using some of that CPU time that should be saved, and
adds extra complexity (to the program itself, the manual, support, etc.).

The reason I ask is because if using PREWHITELIST ON and say WHITELIST AUTH,
the processing of outbound messages so as to add to the list of e-mails in
the AutoWhite for Declude files will not be done, defeating the test.
In this case, I would recommend not using PREWHITELIST ON.

It works any time that the user authenticates. If IMail allows the user to
authenticate with a different address than they are sending from, Declude
JunkMail will allow the E-mail to be whitelisted.

[Declude.JunkMail] Whitelist Auth

2003-09-18 Thread Kami Razvan
Title: Message

Scott:
Hope all is
well.

The global.cfg
has:

AUTOWHITELIST
ONPREWHITELIST ONWHITELIST AUTH

I thought with
Whitelist auth the users that authenticate will have their emails
whitelisted. In this case one user's email to another user (within the
same organization) has been deleted. Of course his email is apparently
about betting or something since it has triggered every filter and the weight
has gone over 90.. The subject is about football and waivers... so who
knows

The weight it
received isalmost the same as a porn email but that is besides the
point.

Is Whitelist Auth
what I thought it is or am I wrong?

Was it sent through a mail client or web messaging?

If using a standard mail client, are they using SMTP AUTH?

Local to local does not require authentication.

If you look at the logs or the Q file, I bet Imail treats it as such and
either does not add the authentication line to the Q file.

[Declude.JunkMail] WHITELIST AUTH / HABEAS

2003-09-17 Thread Glenn \\ WCNet

Hmmm. So WHITELIST AUTH does not work with
IMail 7.x? Why is it enabled by default in the latest global.cfg and
thereare no comments indicating that it works only with IMail 8? I
just upgraded from 1.69 to 1.75 yesterday, and incorporated the changes in the
defaultglobal.cfg and $default$.junkmail into my own files. I didn't
even know what WHITELIST AUTH does, just noticed it had been added. Does
WHITELIST HABEAS have similar restrictions, or does it work with IMail
7.x?

I must say again how difficult it can be to keep up
with the messages in this list. I was unable to do so for several weeks
due a complete readdressing of our network, and I have over 680 unread list
messages. I had to move them to an archive folder and start afresh,
andI may never have the time to read through them, may never know if
anything in them is relevant to my use of JunkMail.

Hmmm. So WHITELIST AUTH does not work with IMail 7.x?
You would have to check with Ipswitch to be sure. My understanding is that
they started including the information in the Q*.SMD file with v7.10, but
haven't confirmed it. It is definitely there for v8.x.

Why is it enabled by default in the latest global.cfg and there are no
comments indicating that it works only with IMail 8?
Because there will be no problems with previous versions of IMail. It just
won't whitelist authenticated users.

Does WHITELIST HABEAS have similar restrictions, or does it work with
IMail 7.x?
That's a completely different option. WHITELIST AUTH checks to see if a
user has authenticated, so it requires cooperation from IMail. WHITELIST
HABEAS looks to see if the E-mail has the Habeas headers, which does not
require any cooperation from IMail (and therefore works with any version of
IMail that Declude works with, which is v5 and later).
