I have heard that with delphi5 there is a component that can read and write to a database without the BDE installed on the computer. Is this true and what delphi5 versions and does this work with DBF files? James. ---

Nic, I'm guessing that James is referring to the TClientDataset. I've heard that it saves a local copy of the data as a DBF (although I have no idea if this is the full story, or even if it's true). Since I don't use this I dont think so - I think it saves it in an internal format, tho it
