1 Why are there two points: "Page Break" and "Manual Break..."? And why
are they not side by side? Finding the second is much more difficult
when you see the first. (To insert a page break quickly you use
. So this part won't be necessary for the profis.)

2 I would expect the "Footnote" in the section Footer, Indexes etc.
3 Is "Picture from Scan..." a less or a rarely used feature? I think
that most people scan the picture with a graphic program. At least
because there is no easy handle with this in Writer (e.g. turning 90°)
4 What to you expect with "Picture/movie/sound from Gallery..."? Is this
item necessary?

Hello,

When moving the bottom split control it is possible to messes up the tabs,
or at least it may seem to some users that they have messed up the tabs.
if you drag it all the way to the left the tabs shrink till there is
nothing but a slider. could the tabs be moved to the top like in a browser?
perhaps blow the tool bar and above the formula bar?

[libreoffice-design] Next year: opportunity for professional silk-screen LibreOffice swag production

2012-05-29 Thread Thorsten Behrens
Hi there,

while at LinuxTag last weekend, I chatted with the girl, running the
resident swag shop there, nicely located at the main entrance / exit
aisle.

Her deal is to produce real silk-screened cotton prints (on
http://www.basic-wear-gmbh.de/ basics currently), sell them at the
venue rather affordably, and afterwards hand over the remaining
stock to the projects for her base price (which is low, due to the
volume she buys).

Something to ponder at least I think. She asks for some 6 weeks
advance notice, I'll stick that to my calendar just in case.

Cheers,

I'll try to be there ... :-)

A usability or UX track would be great, although I'm not sure whether I
can prepare something "big". Personally, I think a few workshops for
doing some UX planning / design together would be nice as well.

What do the others think?

You can see that there is little work to implement :
- most menus are just moved
- few are new menus that links to existing commands
- just need to write 2 new commands (that are shorcuts to already
implemented feature : insert spreasheet and insert drawing)

If you find it interesting, I may propose the same for Calc, Impress
and Draw.

Thanks,

Hi.
Good work Michel. Possibly a survey would be useful.
For me and my work your order is less used at the top, the standard
order is more useful but not optimum (I would have Frame, Table and
Picture above header and footer based on standard usage), so for
different people and uses the order may differ. For Calc, Writer and
Impress usage would differ also.

Hi Jan,

thanks for your efforts :)

Do you think you could make the tabs look like normal gtk+ tabs and let
them adapt to the theme?

Additionally, I'm wondering whether you could remove the indicator in
the status bar that shows whether a document has been changed since the
last time it was saved. Why not just use an asterisk (*) in the window
border, like gedit, glade etc?

Example for a changed document: *ShakespeareEssay.odt -
LibreOffice
if there are no changes to be saved:
ShakespeareEssay.odt - LibreOffice

Kind Regards

Alex

Not sure what exactly you mean by image cutouts.
The source for the images is in Inkscape SVG format at
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_RBf0YVtxzkV3VVdnpuNEZySVU, which you can
play with to your heart's pleasure.

[libreoffice-design] Design for the split controls and tabs

2012-05-29 Thread Jan Holesovsky
Hi Mirek, Astron, all,

In my quest for nicer LO, I noticed that we should probably improve the
look of the split controls and tabs in Calc:

http://artax.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~kendy/design-list/calc-needed-improvements.png

By 'split controls' I mean the black bars on the right, tabs are on the
left. At the moment I think the split controls are those that need the
improvements more prominently, as at the moment, they look like a
rendering mistake, and not something that you can click and drag :-)

Ideally if you can give me a mockup (made from a screenshot) showing how
it would look in use + a separate picture of the control itself.
Currently the split controls are 3 pixels thick, but I think it
shouldn't be a problem to do them eg. 5 pixels if you think it would be
better from the usability point of view

Thank you a lot!

All the best,
Kendy

Hi all,

Now that Sveinn posted her results ... I see the problem (yes, even
with the PDF's linked to).

I tried to coerce Inkscape into giving me useful EPS files ... but it
doesn't look like it can. Thus, here's my try at helping: I exported
it to a srsly large PNG. It is still in RGB mode, but given the fact
that I have zero experience whatsoever with CMYK and I recently
learned that generic CMYK is often less than helpful [1]... Anyway,
this is the file:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Extlogolrg.png

You'll notice that I edited the logo a bit, the text is now vertically
centered, and I enforced the "half width of the document symbol on
each side" rule. Hope that helps, if not ... I can probably check
Scribus if it can export in a useful way. However, can you ask your
designer if he couldn't just go with the SVG? (The rumours about
needing Vegur are unfounded by the way.)
