Hi Mirek,

here some pointers to "the past" ;-)

Already rather complete description by the OOo UX Team (2010):

Re: [libreoffice-design] Android Remote icon

2012-09-12 Thread Kévin PEIGNOT
Hi every one

I've an idea to propose, but I can't design it actually (I just moved
home and I've a lot to do... more of that I've Internet only on my
phone ...)
The idea is to use the Impress Icon (red paper), but instead of a
screen inside the "paper", having buttons as we would have had in a TV
command (4 or 5, just to understand it's a command app).
This way, we would have the LIbreOffice Impress side (red paper) and
the command side (with the buttons) in the same icon, it seems me
easier for a beginner to recognize the app.

What do you think ?

Evidence: 1) can't find it on Google, 2) wxInfoBar also has only GTK
integration, otherwise it's generic.

If you want to know what fonts are actually used in the document, you
can export to PDF and have a look at the list of fonts in the
PDF-Viewer.

But that only lists the fonts that are actually used, not the ones
that are requested by the document.

> [...] TestFont [...]

That extension installs fine in 3.6.1, but only produces empty
reports, thus it is indeed useless at the moment/needs fixing.

Hi Mirek, Sveinn,

unfortunately I don't have the IRC log, hopefully Astron still has it.

Anyway, I created the icon in Inkscape and I also watched that tutorial
some time back.
I knew that the Android guidelines recommended a tilted icon, but
apparently I overdid it a bit. With less tilt it should look a bit
better, too.

@ Sveinn: The guidelines were the reason why I used perspective, to
make it look similar to the system icons. I'll try green waves next.

Thanks

I agree that we need to offer the user a choice of which fonts to
download or to not download any at all.

However, I wouldn't say that it's an issue we need to bother with too
much, given that
1) it's highly unlikely that someone will accidentally use an
open-source Burmese font that's also available in Google Web Fonts or
whatever online repository we settle for
2) if it happens, you'll just have one additional font installed; look
at your font list right now and see how many fonts are actually of use
to you

I agree, and yes, it is a separate issue, so it's not on the list for

It can cover installing new fonts from the repository as well, yes.
I would keep it simple, though.

Actually, this is something separate from that -- it aims to integrate
with a platform-independent online repository like Google Web Fonts or
the Open Font Library.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Android Remote icon

2012-09-12 Thread Sveinn í Felli

Þann mið 12.sep 2012 06:56, skrifaði Mirek M.:

Hi Alex,

Hi everyone,

as discussed during the IRC I started working on the icon for the
remote control: http://ubuntuone.com/3MB2vxkuzrbgdnCwy0hyXx

Could you post the log of the IRC chat on the wiki?
About the icon:
Are you using 3d graphics software to produce it? It's probably better to
use Inkscape, as then you have full control over the details and the
shadows and glows and you're able to adjust the icon for various
resolutions. Gnome's detailed icons are produced in Inkscape. [1]
Also, the viewing angle is different from the standard Android one. Take a
look at https://developer.android.com/design/style/iconography.html and the
way the messaging icon looks.

I'm wondering whether the 3D perspective adds any value
which a simple drop-down shadow wouldn't provide.
And if it does, why viewing from above ? --> suggesting
overview, control, closeness, link to something below, etc...
A perspective skewed sideways may be more appropriate, just
to indicate (lateral) distance.

As for the blue colour in the signal waves; there doesn't
seem to be any general consensus on colour-code for wireless
networking; I often see icons with green, red or blue
symbolising wifi radio. For icons dealing with wifi
connections, often there's red/yellow/green for symbolising
disconnected/connecting/connected.
So, what's your take on this ? Maybe green would be more
appropriate for LibreOffice ?

Regards,
Sveinn í Felli
