I actually got mine to work using res-applet. It detected the modes
properly, let me set the mode, and then I could open
gnome-display-properties.

brasero gives a fault when try to close a cd after burning
For me, the crash (assuming it's the exact same one) happens when I have
my laptop (Dell Latitude D620) in a port replicator, booted with an
external monitor on the port replicator and also with the lid open.
Output of xrandr:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 2432 x 864
Oh, and if I then run 'xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768', the screen
gets a pillarboxed 4:3 rectangle of grey (which I assume is 1024×768)
and does not display the desktop. Running gnome-display-properties at
this point will crash.

Hi,
yes it is reproducible. At least on my computer. To recreate this bug just drag
and drop an MP3 or OGG file into your (firefox) browser window. On hardy these
files will start to play within the browser with the totem plugin. On Jaunty
these files will be offered to download because
could be bug #320386, it's worth waiting for the update due today and
try if that's still an issue
