I have a similar issue here on Jaunty. i did not have it till yesterday,
but today, I got the problem.
When I delete something on my home folder, I can not see them in
trash(trash:///), but when I check ~/.local/share/Trash/files I see
those deleted files appear there.

thinking maybe the user didn't have permissions to access a specific

Ah, I forgot to say that this only happens if the laptop is suspended
for some time, perhaps to let the smb host timeout the connection and
close the handle in the meanwhile.
The totem player was paused before suspending the laptop. After resume,
it played a few seconds (perhaps cache somewhere)

I would say the issue is serious one, as it prevents evince to always

On jaunty, I tried compressing a path(with spaces in it) using the file
roller(to 7zip), and got no error.

Here is a debug backtrace of a similar crash with the same
0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4 version of rhythmbox. It also has a call from
podcast_download_thread() to IA__g_type_check_instance_cast().
But it is not from the same spot inside podcast_download_thread().

Confirmed in Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04.
This is _extremely_ annoying if you want to navigate quitckly in your
files. You found that folder by search that folder and you just cannot
enter it; on click, everything moves down because the first directory is
expanded.
