I still get this error, after I use the sudo command on files related
to APT. I noticed that the behavior of sudo in karmic always defaults
to access o-rwx ---and that defeats the purpose of installing system-
wide software using sudo, among other things.

using Brasero 0.7.1 on Hardy [...] it lets you use the overburn option if
you try to burn a data CD,
but if you try to burn a .ISO file that is slightly over 700 mb (e.g.
today's Ubuntu daily build, which is 705)
it will just give you an error, and not let you burn at all.

I can confirm this issue. I had intrepid configured to not lock on
resume, but after upgrade to karmic, it locks, and nothing in power
management preferences or gconf-editor seems to fix it. (Settings
remain the same as before.)

notify-osd and gnome-power-manager suck about 20-30% CPU each while flickering
is there.
killing gnome-power-manager stops the flickering.
But this is just a silly workaround.
Could anyone of the devs say a few words to that, because I think
I confirm this on Jaunty 32 bit. Ogg stream works for about 15 sec
before stopping.

Um, all I can say is I installed Thunderbird and migrated all my mail over from
Evolution by copying files across.
A day later I tried Evolution again out of curiosity (and continued using it).
It has not asked for a single password since.

Also, when I open up alsamixer, if I press the volume up key, it peggs
the LFE and PCM volumes to the top before gradually increasing the
master channel...
This probably isn't the best way of aggregating the three controls
together and is more than likely what is causing my sound to cut out
Is it possible that the fact I had my volume hotkeys bound to both the
LFE channel and the PCM channels would impact this?
I noticed that in Karmic that I have no way of changing this setting,
but perhaps it's still stuck in a configuration file somewhere?
Where would I go to clear this?

there's a file called /etc/gshadow.lock, and possibly /etc/shadow.lock,
/etc/passwd.lock too; if that's the case, remove them (no risk), and

I have determined that the memory leaks start roughly 35 seconds after
the gnome session is started. The bug occurs every time. I have two
other systems running Ubuntu, one is a Asus Eee 1000HA netbook on
