This annoying bug affects me also since the release of Karmic. After
startup, in 80% times the Notification area is messed up, icons are
duplicated and sometimes the sound is muted.

Some time ago I noticed that every time I checked processes with gnome
system monitor ntop would use a lot of cpu (50-100%). When I killed ntop

Using libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio or export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse with
-all doesn't make any difference for me. SDL audio is stil trash either
way.
